I can't speak for everyone but I have two sergers and one has only one foot with it. The other one is older and you have to change the plate and foot to do a rolled hem. Other that that, I haven't had a need for others. But...I have a Bernina sewing machine that does a lot of things so well that I use it for most everything except for the overlock and rolled hems I do with my sergers. So I guess the answer depends on what you plan to use it for.

I am not familiar with Kenmore sergers, but I once had a Kenmore sewing machine. I couldn't decide if I wanted to shoot it or bury it alive. Finally gave it away to someone who just needed to sew an occasional rip. I hope there machines have improved. Good luck and happy sewing.

Well, I don't have to change the foot for a rolled hem, it does a nice job on that. I wonder if the gathering one would be needed.

If you do much gathering at all, get the foot. My serger is 30 years old and I had no idea new ones have different feet! Have fun.

I agree about the gathering foot. If you plan to use standard thread spools, I'd get the caps. Sometimes the standard spools bind up and the caps are not expensive. You don't need the caps if you are going to use only cones. I use my thread caps a lot because I like to match threads for garments so often use standard spools.

Congrats on learning to use it in only three hours. There are some excellent books on using sergers - not brand specific. My two favorites are "The Ultimate Serger Guide" and "Creative Serging Illustrated".

I'm having fun now using decorative thread in the upper looper.

ok, thanks to all of you. I am hoping Janome is interchangeable with kenmore.

After raising the cutting blade and returning it to the cutting position on my Bernina Serger the machine no longer sews. The serger is still treaded and material will feed through, but no overlock stitching is occuring. Any advice would be appreciated.
