what is the dimensions of the coverlet?

somewhere around width 106" x length 93". If I take my 54" fabric and cut it in half to make my center and then cut the remaining in half lenthwise to add to that it would make it 108" wide without seams. If I add a strip of contrasting material inbetween (because I don't have enough to match the pattern) it would make it even wider depending on the width of the strips i use. Where I'm really short is the length, I only have 72" without seams. Would it look silly to add more border to the top and bottom than the sides?

That's quite a shortage, but maybe you could make shams, skirt, and edging around the entire outside of the coverlet out of the same fabric you use to make the contrast strips. Will the coverlet be quilted or backed at all? What size is the bed?

Or make the actual spread out of the contrast fabric and use your four yards of print for all the trim - pillows, skirt, shams, cording, tie-backs, lamp shades.

You really need to match the pattern. It will look very funny if you don't. You need to figure out the match of the pattern (in length) to have a center panel and then take and split the other panel down the center and put on each side of the center panel matching the pattern. Then make a border (same width) all the way around it. You will need to trim the center piece to make the board equal all the way around. I think you will be more pleased with this look. By doing it this way you are framing the print in the center of the coverlet and making it the focal point of the bed. You may be able to use what is left over of the print to use as a piping along the edge of the coverlet or some where else.
