I have a denim full skirt that I don't wear and now I have an idea of what to do with it....a cape. How clever.This is what I would do: First a disclaimer: I have never done this but right off the top of my head it sounds doable. Here is what I would do: If it is a full skirt with a waistband, I don't think it would be too hard. Just open one of the side seams and remove the waistband. then finish the waist/neck and side seams with a binding or hem finish. An alternative method would be to lay out the skirt/cape and cut a lining (either flannel or other light weight fabric) the same size. Or if you want a really warm cape, use fleece for the lining! Sew together, right sides facing, leaving an opening in the hem area for turning. Turn right sides out, close opening, and voila a lined cape.
However, if it is not a full skirt that would wrap around you, I will have to think on that and hope someone else has a brilliant idea.

This skrit bottons down the front so I figured that I would remove the waistband and shape the sholders somewhat,make arm slips.

oh...I didn't think of arm slips....I was just thinking wrap. I guess it would take a full skirt to do what we have in mind.
Won't have a chance to play with it until next week and then see what I come up with.
Maybe someone else will have another idea.
