I found this picture on the web that has an "uneven" hem, like I was talking about. My dress is embroidery all the way to the hem, which makes it hard to cut. My dress will be llonger in the front instead of the side, like the picture.

Does it look ok?

It's common for infant gowns to have a longer side or front, for a prettier drape when you are carrying them.

In the picture above, the child's left side would be away from the person carrying them.

Thanks so much. I will have to post pictures after I'm done. This gown has embroidery all the way down to the bottom, not lace, but I wanted to keep the existing hem so I didn't have to mess up the embroidery. This will drape in the front.

I too have seen many infant gowns with a longer front than back....for the formal drape as lazygardens said. It makes the photos so much nicer with a formal drape. Budster who can't wait to see your finished product.
