Problem with bobbin

sewhappy2

I have been sewing all of my life and have owned many sewing machines but I've run into a problem today that has me stumped. I have a relatively new Electronic Brother sewing machine that has been operating very smoothly - until now.

Today, as I started sewing one of the seams, the threads bunched up under the fabric and the machine stopped. I extracted all of the threads, removed the bobbin and reseated it, rethreaded the needle, and tried again.

Now, although it seems to run smoothly, it is not drawing the bobbin thread up and so no stitching is taking place. I cannot manually draw the thread up either - the upper thread does not swing around and grab the bobbin thread.

Has anyone had this happen or know what is going wrong? I have read the manual cover to cover and don't see anything that explains my problem.
