Upper thread will not pull up bobbin

I know that this topic has been posted before, but I've read through everything and my machine seems to have a different problem. It's a Kenmore machine that was given to me and would not pull up the bobbin thread. I did have it serviced and the timing was off but this has since been fixed. It was sewing perfectly fine and suddenly just stopped. The bobbin thread had stopped coming through. When I tried to fix it, it seemed as if the top thread wasnt even making a loop to bring it up, and somehow in the process of trying to get it up and running again I broke two needles. I was able to get it through once but when I tried a test piece it didn't sew anything and the bobbin thread went back down again. I just had it fixed a little over a month ago, I'd hate to bring it back and the warranty for fixing it just passed. Any ideas, I've promised a friend a Halloween costume, so I need it up and running soon.

Are you holding the two threads when you begin sewing? Are you sure the bobbin case is threaded properly?

Yes I'm pretty sure it's threaded properly because it had been working fine previously and I hadn't done anything differently. Thanks for those suggestions, I think I may have to bring it in.

Hi, My machine was skipping stitches and it could be the same problem. The bobbin case sometimes gets thread caught in it. I ran a thin straight pin between the pieces that create the tension and it fixed it. You could also try using thread in it like dental floss, back and forth. Thread gets jammed there just like it gets jammed in the upper machine. Also, check the bobbin case area and under the feed dog plate to make sure there's no thread caught in it and make sure the 'hook' that pulls the thread around the bobbin case is moving freely. Did you do anything about the same time that it stopped working, like thread the top or bobbin, or change the needle? If the needle is in wrong or it's not threaded properly, it won't pick up the bobbin thread. Hope that helps. Linda
