Either Caron or Lion brand "Homespun" yarn--they are both wonderfully soft. When my daughter had cancer, these were her favorite yarns. She liked caps and I literally knitted dozens for her. Now that she's in recovery, she's given many of them to the chemo ward at the hospital where she received her treatments.

Nope, knitting caps is almost as easy as knitting scarves. I knit mine "in the round" which means I use a 16" circular for most of it, dropping down to double pointeds as the decreases at the top make it too small for the circular. If you've ever wanted to try circular knitting, a simple watch cap is the best way to get your feet wet.

However, if circular knitting freaks you out, I'm including a link to a simple, knitted watch cap done on straight needles.

I bought a couple patterns last week(sewing) to make myself some hats.I've made one so far and it's kind of a doo-rag style and ties in the back.I made it out of cotton,and i think it turned out cute.I have to make some more.The patter i used is Mc Calls 4116,and i made view "G".

I also bought Butterick 4532,and butterick 5111.

Another suggestion: At the big box stores and hobby stores all around you can buy a round loom package that has 4 looms in it for about $10-12. Be sure to buy the instruction sheet that has hat patterns (about 99 cents)You can knit a hat on them very quickly, but let me warn you, nobody can make just one.
