Bobbins for Kenmore 385.16221300

I'm so glad to be back on gardenweb! I used to post in the Gardening forums but lately sewing has become my thing.

I have a Kenmore as mentioned, and years ago I bought bobbins for it but never really liked them; they rattled and I seemed to have more issues with them. Recently I bought more bobbins but I didn't know which type to buy. I bought both Class 66 and Class 15 bobbins. The packaging and the owner's manual have been no help.

Thanks in advance!

It appears your Kenmore uses Class 15 bobbins. Generally, class 15 is for both drop-in & front-load bobbins. Class 66 is for drop-in bobbins only. (From the Dritz website), the link below is from Kenmore, so I'd buy class 15 if it were my machine. Sears.com says class 15 is for all Kenmore sewing machines.

When I bought my Bernina ages ago, the salesman swapped out all but 1 of the metal bobbins that came with the machine to plastic. He said the metal were louder & clattered a lot more. I've used plastic exclusively & no problems with noisy bobbins.

Do you know if there's a tiny letter B on one side of your bobbin? That's the side that lays against the machine while you wind the bobbin & it's the side that goes in 1st when you insert your bobbin. Makes a difference believe it or not. (I'm not sure if all bobbins have this, mine do). Practice good bobbin hygiene lol.

I was surprised it took several google attempts & no answer, sears.com came up with it right away, should've started there. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! And no, I didn't know about "bobbin hygiene" but I will be sure to start practicing it. I should have known to look up the Sears or Dritz sites...

The bobbins I bought before are rounded rather than flat, so I figured that was why they rattled.

that's probably the diff. between class 66 & 15?

I dunno, I can't quite tell through the plastic. The packaging on both of them does say they're for both drop-in and front-load, but whichever. Now to find the receipt for the class 66...
