No I never even thought of it. The seam gives definition to the front and makes the front opening more solid and less likely for the facing to flop out--at least in my opinion.

How are you going to attach the interfacing?

I've done it w/ blouses/shirts & lightweight jackets - usually extending to include the interfacing as well - a.k.a. self facing & self interfacing. This works fine if there will be stitching &/or buttons/buttonholes to hold it place, of course. & the type of fabric used makes a difference as well.
