Seeking advice for broken Viking Quilt Designer II

This is my first attempt to reupholster a beloved chair. I was sewing the last piece of the seat cover when the fabric got caught in the leg, broke the needle and then made a distressing sound before I was able to to take my foot of the peddle. I replaced the needle and was trying to adjust the leg when I realized that all functions that control the leg and needle,on the right side of the button panel are neither working or lighting up. I have also lost power to the peddle. I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what was the outcome. I realize I need to bring it to an expert, but part of me so badly wants to take it apart and try to fix it myself. If it were my mothers Viking, a simple but worthy machine, I would. This new technology is wonderful, but baffling when problems arise.
