Knit fabric is often sold that way. I think it is so it won't unravel. Sometimes there is a join line and you can cut it apart there. If not, whenever I used it I left it in the tube to cut out my pattern. If you look closely you can see the knit stitches. I went down one side and pinned along a row of the knit stitch and used that as my fold line. Single pieces were cut out after the main pieces that had to be cut double.

Maybe someone else has a different way

There is no joint and no tube. I got it on ebay thinking it was a solid piece. It came folded up, I went to start my project, and now I am puzzling on how to cut it evenly. I can kind of try to flatten it out, and just cut, but I don't know if this will ruin the grain line.
