Ripplefold drapes - newbie

Hi,

I am making ripplefold drapes and just finished sewing on the snap tape, however when I tried to steam iron the finished drape, the fabric puckered really badly around the snap tape. Should I launder/iron the tape before sewing it on? What size stitch do you recommend for sewing the tape on to the curtain. The fabric is a silk blend, like dupioni and the drapes are lined.

I'm a sewing newbie(ish), thought ripplefold drapes would be a breeze, but no :-(

Appreciate any help/pointers.

I am researching how to do ripplefold drapes and have read that you should wash the snap tape first. I don't know the answer to this question but I do wonder if the weight of the curtains would be an issue.
