Hi,Can anyone give me some suggestions on what type of new machine is a good one ? Right now I have a Singer Creative Touch 1030. I bought it in 1980! It still runs great. I love it . But I want a newer one with more stitchs and just a little embroidery. What would you suggest ? I don't want to spend too much. I was looking yesterday and saw some for $2000, way too much for me.So what do you think? Mary in Va

Your best bet is to go to a store that sells machines and try some out. What you buy depends on what you want to do with it. If you want something that also does embroidery it is going to be expensive. Sometimes you can get a good used machine. Colleen

Do not buy a new Singer they have downgraded so much it a sin, anything under 200 is trouble in the making and a lot of frustration. Stick with White,Elna Nichhi,Viking huguara(OK I dont know how to spell that one yet)Or Elna. There are no sewing machines made in america today.Cost would be horrific. Harold

I would suggest looking at a Viking Scandinavia 300 model. It will do embroidery, and you can buy additional designs online or via CD-ROM. As a plus, they are on sale right now in some places, and Viking is bringing out new models so you might find one on clearance.
