Making a throw for my bed?

I have some lovely fabric that I picked up several years ago in the Carib. I would love to make a throw for the end of our bed. Thinking of lining it and putting some piping around the edges....what would you add as a layer to give it some body? Batting? I don't want to quilt it. Any suggestions or links to tutorials would be greatly appreciated! :-)

Consider backing it with a layer of flannel. The flannel with 'stick' to the back of the top fabric and give it stability.

Just make sure you prewash and dry the flannel to avoid an unpleasant shrinking surprise in the future.
