Hemming creating bumps

Hello Community,

This is my first time here and I tried to search for a resolution to my problem but I couldn't find anything on it. Excuse me if this is a very 'newbie' question. I am working on a costume that requires large satin strips. As I try to hem the cut edges of the satin strips with my sewing machine, the fabric begins to bunch up and gather at points, forming bumps along the hem. The link below is a picture of the problem:

What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Try lengthening your stitches.

I'd also suggest playing with the tensions. Hope you have scrap to play on until you find the right combination.

That is very slippery fabric. It's probably not being feed evenly into where the needle sews. (sorry can't remember the correct terminology) Try holding the fabric taut in front of and behind the needle, use both hands, and very slowly sew it/feed it along as you sew. Also, as mentioned in previous post play aroung with tension and presser foot preasure

How about putting in a new, sharp needle?

A walking foot will probably help a great deal.

Are you hemming a circular hem...If so, you may have too much fabric from the bottom of the hem after you have folded it up, to fit into the area where you are stitching.
