Help With Costume Ideas (Opinions Welcome!)

Hi everyone,

I know I'm WAY early with this and I didn't know where else to post this but I just came up with my Halloween costume idea yesterday and I just wanted to share it with all of you.

My costume idea is a (movie) theater usher (an homage to a character from one of my favorite musicals) and here's what I have jotted down: I would use an old dress suit or tuxedo but I would dress it up with fabric paint and do a star motif on the shirt and pants. I'm going to use an empty pizza box, wrap it in white paper (or maybe a colored fabric?) and place boxes of candy (also empty) on it (how to secure them? Glue?). I was going to write on the sides pizza box too (once it's covered). What about gloves or a hat? Maybe a microphone? I'm open to lots of ideas!

I forgot to add that I'll attach something like a sash or fabric strap to the pizza box and I'll wear the "refreshment tray".

I believe you mean a 'cigarette girl' - they also sold candy - not an usher tho - they escort people to their seats...

Usually found walking around bars & lounges saying, "Cigars, cigarettes, cigars, cigarettes..."

Carol, that's the character from the musical! She is called the Usherette but I'm doing a male version of the character. Well, I'm combining the two "characters" more or less. It's all for fun though! I love the pictures!

Moonwolf - fun idea! I like the inspiration pics carolb posted, especially the first one. Notice the gold colored braid/trim on the jacket front and collar?...and on the hat?
You could make or buy a hat that's the same color as your jacket. Fabric stores sell all different types of braid/trim. It would be neat to sew or glue the trim on to your hat and jacket. I would also add the trim to the wrist portion of your jacket. Now, what about the pants? Add a strip of trim on the sides (from waist down to the bottom hem)? Are you going to look at thrift stores for a jacket & pants? Keep us posted on your progress!

    Thank you, Laurie!

The first one has the hat I originally thought of wearing but I also posted about this at the Holidays forum and someone suggested the idea of a top hat too (how would that look?). I like the idea of gold trim too! I think it would look better than the star motif that I thought of. I am going to look at the thrift stores for a jacket and pants.

Switching from costume to props, I wanted to ask you what I should write on the "refreshment tray"? I was thinking about the name of the musical along with "Opening Tonight" on the front and on the sides I would just write "Refreshments" or "Candy" or something like that. How about some gold fringe trim from the box to make it look official?

Just for fun: did anyone figure out what musical I'm talking about yet?

    Would that be Rocky Horror?

Carol, you're absolutely correct! Not sure what song I'll sing from it but it'll be either the one she sings (Science Fiction Double Feature) or this one:

"Let's do the time warp again!" ^_^
