| Kathi, Here are some directions for making a yo-yo coverlet. Seems to me joining them would be pretty much the same no matter what you are making. Hope this helps. http://www.geocities.com/brendabarrow2000/quilting_instructions.htm All the best, Nanna |

| I have seen some people butt them up against each other & do a bar-tack stitch with a short length zigzag. The larger the coverlet, the more weight the stitches get in handling. My mother always said handle them while working or after finished without suspending mid-air. Work & fold or shift around the finished item on a surface. You can't easily stabilize the stitching area & I had fabric tear at the stitching points. |

Thanks ladies.Someone asked me that today and i explained how i always did them, then got to thinking, maybe there are directions out there someplace.Actually the way i do it,is the way the directions say,so don't know if i read this sometime in the past,or did i just figure it out because i sew.Doesn't rally matter,as long as they come out ok. | How to Make the yo-yo First decide on what size yo-yo you want to make. Cut your fabric in a circle twice the size of the yo-yo you want plus 1/2" more. For example: You want to make a 2" yo-yo. You cut your fabric in a 4-1/2" circle. (2 + 2 + 1/2 = 4-1/2) Turn the edge of the circle 1/4" toward the wrong side of the fabric. Make small running stitches through both layers of fabric Make sure to use a strong quilting thread. You do not want the thread to break when you gather the fabric. After you have sew all the way around your fabric Pull the thread to gather the circle with the right side of the fabric facing out. Make a knot in the thread. Attaching yo-yos together Hold two yo-yos edge to edge with the front sides facing each other (side with hole). Make a few small whip stitches and tie off thread. |
