I think they have been in bankruptcy for a while. I don't know if every store will close or if it will be like Hancock's where a few close.
Again I wonder what is this country coming too? We have outsourced ourselves out of buisness.

Hey, my Joann stocks went up recently. I used to work there, haven't heard about bankruptcy, it is a privately owned company I believe.

The Wal-mart employees I talked to said that Wal-Mart was trying to do away with departments that required personal service, like cutting fabric and notions. They still plan to have the pre-packaged notions and such. Most stores seem to do away with them when they undergo a remodel.

It looked like to me that JoAnn's was strong but I heard something about the upholstery fabric portion. It is odd to me that they have survived when so many of the others that I considered much, much better have had to close. I don't really like JoAnns, but it may be all we have left in the retail market.

I don't think it was JoAnn's, but a private company with a similar name that filed for bankruptcy.

They just closed two small Joann stores and opened a super store near me here in FL. The two Wal-Mart stores that are close are new within the last 7 years and both are still carrying fabric, although there is not much of a selection. I don't buy fabric from either one. The quality is just not there. I wait to buy fabric in NH when I go back to visit.

I asked the salesperson at our local (KS) WalMart last week if they were closing the fabric dept. He said no - originally WalMart had decided to close all of them nationwide but then decided some marketing areas definitely supported the continuance of the fabric dept. so they will leave the more profitable locations open.
