Hello!

I am sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am new to sewing. I recently received an old Kenmore 148.124 sewing machine. It works great - to sew straight. I can't get it to sew a zig-zag. I assume it can as there is a width knob, but no matter how I adjust the width I can only sew straight. You can see the needle move to the right when you turn the width knob.

I have been doing some reading and see that some machines need a cam ?? to do zig-zags. I'm not sure what a cam is.

My machine is probably 35 years old. There is a round width knob and a length lever.

I appreciate any guidance.
