Long dress from transluscent material

I'm very new to sewing and am mostly self-taught (or trying, at least) and have a question that might be silly but here it is: I want to make a long, circle skirt (attached to a t-shirt: it's a maternity dress) from slightly see through fabric and am wondering how to work with it. Does one double the fabric? I know a lining is/might be in order but I plan to wear the skirt this summer and linings seem to be made from synthetic materials I know I'll hate in warm weather. My question is - what specifically do you do in this case? What fabric should I look for? If a lining is the best option, how long should it be? Does it need to be part of the skirt or separate from it? Thanks in advance for your help! M
