I don't know if there is much of a difference between the 2 model numbers, maybe the stitch length might be a little longer on the 3034D? I have the 1034D, and I really like it. I knew nothing about sergers, I bought it on Amazon for about $150 with a promo code. The 1034D has color coded paths for the thread to assist in the threading, and it comes with a couple of dvds to show you what to do. The manual isn't great though, so you might want to buy a general book about serging. It also comes with a couple of extra feet, but I haven't used them yet.

I just recently brought the 3034D and i love it.I had had the white 534 for 25 years before this one.This is much easier to thread,i can blind hem on it,as well as serge,put in elastic,gather etc.I paid 399.00 but i bought it locally and get free lessons,service is readily available if i need it.
I plan to be using it a lot the next week or 2.
