My husband was an industrial sewing machine mechanic for years, and had many requests to check home machines. The first thing he checked was to see if the machine was properly threaded, and the second thing was the tensions. This seems such a basic answer, but I have sewed for many years and have found if I was having problems with stitches, etc., one of these was usually the reason.
