I am totally new to this. I never really considered it before. But I saw an older thread about bags. Due to budget I rarely buy purses...I use the big ones because of all the stuff I'm REQUIRED to carry around due to health issues. They are always big pits and its hard to find anything. Plus the shoulder straps are always the wrong length and I can't seem to get them to stay on over my coats.

Are there patterns for such things? With inside panels, pockets etc? Also any tips/tricks would be appreciated. I'm not afraid to take a basic idea and play with it. I once made a ritual dress/costume totally without an actual pattern. I used a couple of garments I had that fit...did measurements and basic sketches of lines into a large sketch pad and used that as a rough pattern. It wasn't perfect (due to fabric I used that I was inexperienced with) but it fit really well and layed great.
