Charity Sewing for Preemies

Posted by cjangel (My Page) on

Hi everyone. My spare time project has been sewing preemie burial gowns/sets and buntings. Donated over 1,000 to hospitals on the east coast last year. If anyone has unwanted lace and trims to donate, they will be put to good use. Will email pictures of the sets(gown, blanket, hat, booties) or the buntings for the tiny 7-17 week babies. Any white or ivory flat or ruffled lace 1/2" - 2" will be greatly appreciated. I use flannel, satin, eyelet and bridal fabrics in white or ivory. Thanks. Colleen,

Below is a site for Donation requests for JoAnn Fabrics.
From the Topics dropdown menu, select Corporate Giving and make your case in your message. The Jo-Ann team who manages our corporate giving program reviews every submission, but it can take time for them to do so as you can imagine that we get a LOT of requests for donations - both financial and in-kind (product).

You can also try a few local bridal shops might have left over trims or fabrics from alterations. You may have to sign a statement that your are not using fabrics for personal profit gain.

Thank you for the JoAnn contact information - I will submit that information next. I did try my local bridal shops and the answer was NO... property of the bride. I do have a local independent bridal shop and she has my information, but said most times the amount cut off is less than 6" and so far has not had any larger scraps... I have only one drapery workroom in the area and they save all white and ivory fabric - the embroidered sheers make beautiful gowns... so at least that is a blessing. Right now I make so many more gowns than I can get free fabric! Again thanks for the JoAnn info... Any leads on really cheap lace?

RE: Charity Sewing for Preemies

Here's an update on the Preemie Charity Sewing project. In 2010 donations to hospitals totaled about 2,000. That is preemie buntings and gown sets. Now in 2011, I have surpassed the 2,000 mark for this year already. It continues to be a struggle to find inexpensive ruffled white lace. Please let me know of any sources you have contact with. Thanks for all your help.
