My only advice would be to ask what did they refurbish on the Pfaff first, and what guarantees are offered on both machines - and will they give you classes on how both machines work? Check into Consumers Guide and see how the machines are rated, if you can - ask at the library for help to locate a recent article. How old is the Pfaff? Take another test drive on both machines before you do decide......walk away and give yourself a day to make your choice. That would be my advice without actually seeing and trying the machines for myself......another thought would be get a sewing buddy to come along and have a look as well - sometimes they see things you could have missed. Thank you both for your suggestions. I'm going back to the store with my experienced sewist friend.

Both machines have three-year warranties. Both machines were great to sew on (for inexperienced me - but I'll have my friend give them a go.) I think the Pfaff is around 5 years old. Both are well rated.
