Can you help me repair this?

My friend has a black sport coat with a small tear in the collar. It looks like maybe it got caught in a suitcase zipper or something. It is about 1/4" wide, basically round, and the threads are pretty much gone and the interfacing is showing through.

Because of the location on the collar, it's quite visible. My thought is to open up the lining and take a small patch piece either from the hem or the extra fabric inside the back vent, or maybe the seam allowance. I can open up the collar and slip the patch under the hole, and maybe stitch it to the undercollar and put something like Fray Check around the hole.

The jacket gets very little wear, so if we can do some sort of fix that will look reasonably decent, it will save throwing out a perfectly good sport coat.

I am open to any other suggestions, so please let me know if there is another technique or product I could try.

Thanks!!
