how to make fringe on a sarong

Hi all,

I would like to make a sarong for a friend who's going to Mexico on Wednesday, Jan. 17th. I have a colorful piece of cotton fabric that would be perfect. I could simply hem it, but I like the look of fringe that I see on a lot of them. Does anyone know how to make the fringe? It seems like the strands are pulled out from the cut edge of the fabric and tied in knots, but I'm not sure if there's a technique. Any help would be appreciated :) Thank you!

Measure out how long you want the fringe to be and mark that measurement with a line of stiching. Then draw out the threads up to that stitching line. Decide how many threads you want to bundle together to tie in a knot. Then tie the knots and you will be finished.

Daylilydayzed, thank you for your response. I figured it was a pretty simple procedure. I have a question though - how do you draw out the threads? Do you use a tool? Your fingers?
