Mitten tips anyone?

I've been on a kick making mittens lately. Had found a mitten pattern that works really well.. no thumb problems, and comfortable. (It's called Easy Mittens, made by Timber Lane Press)

Anyway, just been making them from fleece, and lined with micro fleece. Had been trying to think of a way to keep hands warmer/and dry. So, I've been putting a layer of rip stop nylon in between my inner and outer layer. It's very thin, but a little slippery. I use a basting spray to hold it to the inner liner while I'm sewing.

Rip stop is both wind and water resistant, so it keeps the inner layer dry and keeps the cold Wisconsin winter winds from ripping thru the fleece. My grandchildren love them! I tested them with some snowball making and the inner layer did not get wet. Of course the outer layer did, but fleece dries fairly quickly and with just one spare set to use while one dries on the heat vent, they can play outside all day! (my daughters have thanked me for that!!)

Just wondering if anyone else has any mitten tips to share?
