First Time Scrapbooker - Need Help!

Posted by Ladybugtwin (My Page) on

After years of collecting materials for scrapbooking. I am finally starting a scrapbook. I want to make a "Me and My Family" scrapbook for my niece. To start with I have pictures of her with each of her great-aunts and great-uncles. My problem is some of the pictures of her with her aunts and uncles have a very dark background. In fact, in some of the pictures, the aunts with dark hair kinda of blend into the background. (Do I want to crop around that and cut out the background completely?) I've cut the pictures into squares, circles and ovals, but I am at a loss as what to do with the background. Should I put them on colored paper, leave the page white or mat the pictures? Since they are dark backgrounds do I use dark paper. Most of them are wearing dark clothing since it was in the winter.

Pictures of her other great-aunts and great-uncles were taken outside in the summer time. Can some of these be combined on the same page with the others with dark backgrounds?

Eventually her entire book will include other members of her family, but right now I am stumped as to what to do. Are there any sites showing this type of album?

It sounds like such a neat project. I have found when I cut out my pictures(like around their heads, etc.) that I am never happy with them and wish that I hadn't done it. I see cute layouts with them cut out but it doesn't work with me. I don't have a scanner but I don't know if you scanned the photo if you could lighten anything up. Do you have negatives that you could take in to a photo shop and just ask for advice. I had my daughters graduation picture with her cap and gown and the dark gown just blended in to the background so I mounted it on white to try and lighten it up a little. Good luck.

You can try scanning the picture and playing around with the contrast and/or brightness. Sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. If you don't have a scanner, check out the picture copier at the Wal-mart photo center. If it doesn't work, you don't have to pay for the picture.

At walmart. The machine they have to enlarge will lighten the picture. IM sure you have a walmart they seem to be everywhere.
