Scrapbook Dilemma??!??!?!?

Hi!

I have a dilemma with my pictures........first, I very very very behind in putting them in ANY sort of order!! Next, I'm not sure WHAT I want to do with them! I have always shied away from "scrapbooking", because I don't like detailed work PLUS I'm not very creative! But.......I do want to do something with the photos, that is cute, colorful, and fun to look at besides just putting them in 4x6 photo slots!!!!!

Can anyone help me? What and how should I do them?! I'm getting to the point where I don't even want to take photos, because I have no where to put them!!!!

Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

First of all don't obsess about using "all" of your photos if you are behind or it will just blow your mind. Plan on keeping the leftover ones in your 4 x 6 albums. What I like to do now that I have my computer is: Put them in groups that I want to make into pages...a birthday or just a shopping trip. I lay them by my computer and write (I don't print well) stories and headings using different fonts. I have found that I can find a clipart picture for about any occasion. So...I make my own stickers for each page or picture. For instance: my husband and I went to the State Fair...made fair related stickers. We had our pictures taken by our neighbors team of work horses when he was in competition at the fair...found clipart of workhorses and used those on that page. I have them all in here by my computer at first so that I can look at the pictures and find clipart to go along...my albums have changed so much for the better since I got my computer. You can buy full-page clear sticker paper or white full-page sticker paper (I use the clear ones the most..they almost look like they are part of white paper...don't work well on colored paper). I print a whole sheet of stickers at a time, so that I don't waste any of my paper. This is so much fun...you can really customize your pages and don't have to go in search of specific stickers and then end up with pages of them that are left over and you will never use. I love to just set and look at my albums now and so does the rest of the family...great fun..try it...

You could just use "Key" pictures in your scrapbook and put the other pictures in a photo album, if you like.

I am doing a scrapbook on my Husband and my trip to Ireland. I have many pictures and it is hard to organize them. I also stress out about it. I am doing just a litle bit at a time. I have everything in a box. I am trying to organize the pictures such as all the castle pictures, all the cathedral pictures and churches and so on. There are many ways I could have orgainized them. Such as putting the castle pictures with the county or town they came from. But I chose to do it the way I wanted. That's what's fun about scrapbooking, you can do it anyway you want.

I am trying to pace myself. I feel I need some more decorative paper to trim, or outline some pictures that I have already inserted in my book. I will wait until I can go to the store I want to, that is a ways off before I do any additional work on the book. But I might just sit down sometime and organize. I still don't know for sure what I am going to put on the cover??

I told about each picture and in my book, also I have so far inserted 2 tickets to Blarney Castle and a brochure of St. Patrick Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland along with a small paper back book, about St. Patrick's cathedral that will fit nicely in the scrapbook too.

So try not to fret so much about your book. It may takes you months to finish it. But there should be no deadline. Just work at it when you can.

Like I said earlier there is no set way that you have to do things. You could put just one picture on a page and tell about that picture or 2 or 3 pictures on a page. The amount of pictures on a page could be also according to how many pictures you actually want in the book.

Try HGtv.com on the net. (Home and Garden Televison) They have a scrapbooking show that I have watched a few times. You possibly could get some ideas from this website.

A lot depends on for what events/contingencies you're preparing. Some of the list is humorous. "Big dogs"? Kind of goes with goats & chickens? Liquor for bribes! And seeds? Probably should include an alternate mate to repopulate the world! LOL Ease up folks, some of it clearly was for entertainment purposes. But there are basic items I can't excuse people for not having in stock. If you don't have a supply of batteries in your refrigerator drawer, purchased when free or cheap, you deserve to suffer during a power outage. Again I endorse the crank flashlights/radios (until analog radio is turned off of course). I would suggest going with propane for lantern and stove fuel rather than the white gas ("Coleman" type) fuels. That stuff is explosive. If you doubt it, take a tablespoon and throw it on a campfire sometime. But be back a ways when you do it. A 20# propane tank can have splitters on it to run multiple lanterns and a stove, even a heater, much more safely than the white gas. Heavy garbage bags make excellent makeshift raingear. And don't forget about firestarters. If you're talking emergency situations, I'd suggest waterproof matches. Make your own by dipping the wooden matches in paraffin wax. Firestarters are many different kinds. Save some dryer lint. Works great. Keep it in a coffee can. Dip some cotton string in paraffin wax. Some books of matches waterproofed (with? yes, paraffin) works too and even the end pieces from candles you use in the house at holidays. A hatchet is a good idea to keep handy too. Essentially, camping fans will do fine in a lot of emergencies. Other cooking sources are your propane grill, kettle grill if you have charcoal and starters. A good alternative to thermal underwear is sweatpants and shirts. Even southerners often have these. Depending on the clothes sizes you can put a pair under and over a pair of jeans. Or the flannel lounging pants under and sweats over them. A few cans of waterproofing spray like Scotchguard will help keep them and you dry. Another little camping tip. Oh, and instead of a dedicated toilet, a portable toilet is made easily from a 5 gal pail, seat if you want to get fancy or even a folding camp stool or a lawn chair! A camp shovel and squat will work too. And if truly an emergency, modesty goes out the window. Fasten the toilet seat to the 5 gal pail and you won't have to argue about who left the seat up! :) Wire clothes hangers can be versitile tools. Use them to make your own lantern hangers, repairs, tie things together, and you can even hang clothes! (To dry and more.) Can also be used as a weapon to beat off people trying to steal your rats, chickens, goats and big dogs! ;) Personally, I think I would use duct tape instead of stockpiling screen patching but the idea of all of these suggestions is to get you thinking. I really think that doing some research on camping tips and tricks would be of great benefit to a lot of people. I live a rather modest life, austere to the view of many. But when the power was out for a week here the last time, I survived quite well. Comfortably under the circumstances and even had some luxuries that many others didn't. I had tv, radio, light, food, water, telephone... Not a huge disaster compared to some, but being prepared not just with supplies, but also in a state of mind. My last suggestion. On these ideas, why not put together a 3 ring binder or something with lists of what to do in certain situations? For instance, power outage, turn off as many breakers as you can, the crank flashlights are located in the hall closet, 1st aid tips, important phone numbers, insurance info, etc. Even ideas for food, crackers & PB (sans-salmonella, eat first from the frig, etc.) and how about including notes like check on the handicapped neighbor, your elderly relatives, etc. Could be helpful. Even though I disagree with some of the ideas, I do like these lists minnie_tx. Keep 'em coming. I like going through them and see how they compare to my checklists and I get ideas from most all of them. I appreciate your efforts.

Hi - I'm guessing you don't want to damage the surface of any vintage items? Martha Stewart had a cute idea from awhile back: using hanging tags/labels w/ contents written on 'em - this was for old suitcases & the tags' strings were tied to handles. Not sure if that'd work for tins, but something I've been doing a lot of lately is spelling out contents on containers w/ scrapbooking sticker alphabets found @ dollar stores & similar. & magnets might work well on metal - I was imagining flat wood, cardboard or plastic, or even flexible magnetic sheets .....

I ADORE the clock on the fireplace . Sensational. I have a few things you might consider for the other areas. First, the size of round table next to the sofa...could you possibly get a larger size? That might balance the piano a little better. As for art on the wall, I think you might see if your area has an "antique mall" where you can look for some art. If you have never been to one, most of what they have isn't expensive antiques; it's items that people buy at estate sales and then re-sell at their booth at the antique mall. It is the first place I look for accessories. I can almost always find just the perfect thing, already framed, for less than just the image somewhere else.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and great advice! I am doing some of that already (shopping for both, scrapbooking/Pinterest/Houzz)so I guess I am on the right track. I will have stainless apppliance so that is a touch of gray. Unfortunately I don't have room for an island or a hutch. What I do know is that I am not a huge granite fan so that narrows things down a little. LOVE marble, but probably will go with a quartz. So this my thought process and the options I am considering: 1) Gray, maybe more like taupe or greige, cabs; white quartz counter - Misty Cararra, Torquay, Lagoon, Lyra; and a white or light bs. For example ... (I blame Michelle16 for this one! :)) or ... with ... 2) White cabs; gray counter - Caesartone Pebble; and ??? for bs (The gray and white lends itself nicely to pale blue - paint, bs, etc. While I like blues in my bedroom, I don't know that I want it in my kitchen, so I would need some other bs ideas) 3) White cabs; brown counter - Caesarstone Wild Rice; and ??? for bs (maybe this?) Not sure why those last few pics came out so small. Maybe a subliminal message that gray is the way to go :)

I take some time and lay everything out on a big table of two in categories - then condense what pictures you want and don't want. then to scrap book easy do to a store and buy a pack of precut paper in triangles of different colors and sizes, and strips with straight or finished edges. then just lay them in different places. you can outline pictures or pages in triangles on the corners or use strips as borders. Layer colors, and add a few stickers or die cuts and everyone thinks you spend hours.
