I have a 10 year old, very mature great niece who has started scrapbooking. Can you suggest some good gifts, something all scrapbookers need or wish they had. thank you

How about a paper cutter, scissors, embellishments, scrapbook, stickers, etc. Just go to any craft store and the ideas will come to you, BELIEVE ME!

I think the paper cutter is a great idea. Just make sure you get one that you can measure, not just a "cropper. I just stopped at a Dollar Tree (the dollar store where everything is $1) and they had a big variety of stuff. Also check out Hobby Lobby when they have 1/2 price sales on stickers or paper. The paper packs they have with a variety of colors would be great. If she already has the basics of cutter, paper, scissors, etc., then get her some punches; decorative corner punches would be good if she is actually scapbooking pictures. Maybe she has a pet she would like to make a scrapbook of--there are lots of stickers for that. You will have fun shopping for her and might just get hooked yourself if you haven't been doing it.

I have three of these brothers. Christmas is always a fun time. (Not.) Does he have Netflix or Hulu Plus? You can give him several months of streaming video, if he likes to watch TV. A "luxury" brand of something he uses often? Like gourmet coffee or chocolate or nachos? If he has a favorite movie or TV show, something related to that? I knitted one brother a Doctor Who scarf last year and he loved it. Even though he's not into gadgets, what about one of those emergency radios? The ones with a flashlight and charging port, that run on batteries but can also be hand-cranked. Nearly everyone has power outages at some point, and needs some emergency gear. Two places I've found good gifts for my brothers: Restoration Hardware and ThinkGeek. Check out RH's gift section--look at the stocking stuffers. There are a lot of ideas there. ThinkGeek does have a lot of techy stuff, but there's some useful home gadgets there as well. In addition to a cat hammock that my cats just love. (Would he like a gift for the cats?) It's a good place for outside-the-box gifts. Granted, he is probably not going to want the Zombie Apocalypse Garden Gnomes, but they have a lot of iPhone and iPad accessories, desk/office stuff, and a lot of things related to coffee and bacon, which a lot of guys seem to like.

We had the same problem for years. We have a group of seven couples (all close in age). We would take trips together once every year or so but during the year we would take turns hosting a monthly dinner. Of course this always necessitated a hostess gift. All of us are comfortably off and at our age have everything (material) that we want or need. It drove me crazy because I was constantly being gifted with craft type items. I am just not into cutesy things and I had a difficult time coming up with items that I thought the other ladies would enjoy or use. I failingly ended up giving food items or fresh flowers. We all finally came to a consensus that we should stop doing hostess gifts and at Christmas put funds together to donate to a charity. Thank goodness! The pressure every month is off and we can give to those in need. It's a win/win.

I gave both of my kids a grad party when they graduated from HS. Both were essentially the same. Sunday afternoon around 2 pm. Lots (LOTS) of munchies - chips, dips, veggies, cookies, brownies, cheese, that sort of thing. No activities were planned. I invited my close friends, and they invited their friends. I served wine for the adults, cokes for the kids. Everyone sat around munching & schmoozing and a good time was had by all. Simple. For gifts, I recommend things that have to do with the college they will be going to (for those who are going). T-shirt, sweat shirt, rug for dorm room, blanket, etc, with college logo. If they are going away to another city, books with information on that city. Mostly my kids got checks for gifts, but a few people gave them what I just named above and they liked those gifts a lot.

I know not all guys are into candles -- but I have 2 who are. I picked up this candle earlier this season but it is on sale 30% off (at least today). It's 3" x 5" so will fit in many stockings. Under the Stars Canteen Candle (or on Sundance where it is on sale ..Test of Time Thermos Candle in "stars") I bought this one for the design which I think fits a college student. Other scents that have been popular with them.. Leather Mitt and Tobacco (which does not smell like cigarettes!)

If you have a "Michaels" Craft store in your area, watch when they have their paper packs 1/2 off. They are cheaper there than at Hobby Lobby, other wise Hobby Lobby is the place to get 95% of scrapbooking products. Once she has a good straight edge cutter, embellishments are the best.

How about a gift certificate to Michael's or Hobby Lobby and then take her to those stores to shop with her? Fun!

Don't know if you sew, but how about a really neat tote bag to cart it all along in? One made out of an old pair of jeans would probably be a big hit. It's cool that she's into scrapbooking at a young age. Let us know what all you decided to get her. Keep up the inspirations!
