Computer-printed photos in album with regular photos?

Posted by Netla (My Page) on

For several years nearly all the photographs my father took were on slide film and were never developed onto paper. I am now in the process of scanning some family photos off the slide films and printing them out. I want to use them to fill some gaps in my family album, but is it safe (in the long run) to put computer-printed photos in the same album as ordinary photos? I want the photos in this album to become heirlooms and I don't want to risk damaging them.

If you're using acid free paper to print on, you shouldn't have any problems...that I'm aware of.

Except they tell me that computer printed pictures will fade with time. I'm hoping that is because of the air and light getting to them..which wouldn't be the case in an album. I had one that I had hanging on my bulletin board and it faded to a ghostly print in a short time. I have one under glass on my desk and it is fading some but not as fast as the one that was completely exposed...both have had about the same amount of light..only the one under glass was sealed from the air...but it "is" fading. I can't see that the ones in my albums have faded, but I don't think they will stand the test of time...

Could you go thru the pictures and have some of the ones you really like printed out from the slides? What about printing them on regular photographic paper? You might go to a regular camera store and ask them. I would choose one who has been in business for a long time and deals with all types of cameras, etc.
