Want to start scrapbooking - help?!!!

Hi All,

I am the family collector. I have all pictures, documents and stuff that means nothing to no one but me. LOL I have always kept memory books & boxes and I plan to do a shadow box display for my son's (7 yrs old :-) football memoirs from his first season, but I want to start putting some of this stuff in scrapbooks. I have purchased a few scrapbooks, binders and the little corner mounters but I would like to know what are the other general supplies I need to keep in stock.

My first major scrapbook will be for my mom on mother's day. I am getting my sisters, son & nieces to write her letters to include in a section that will be dedicated from each of us. Any other suggestion on what I should include?

gosh there is sooo much stuff out there now when i started doing scrapbooks the right way there was very little out there and it was hard to find. but now everywhere has it. i would start with the basics ~ cardstocks and papers (acid free of course), photo stickers or mounting corners ( i personally dont like mounting corners), some pocket pages so that some of the papers can be removed and looked at, a black acid free pen, there are some beautiful hertiage stickers available.

I have two CM (those dreaded unmentionable words!) scrapbooks (one little, one big) that I was given to make a scrapbook from my wedding. They have been sitting here for six months. Any ideas? I have some but haven't had the motivation to sit down and do it. I also have proofs from the wedding (some I ordered enlargements of) so I could put those in the book. any suggestions about this before I cut my proofs up to fit the book? I have a whole stack of stuff and two bags worth, not sure what to do with.

The last time I made a scrapbook was when I was like 7 years old. I still have it!

Hello Friends, I wanted to see if someone had some seeds / saplings which they could spare. I am just getting started and needed some help. Here are some of seeds /saplings which I wanted to get. I went to our local nurseries but was unable to find it. 1) Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (Night-flowering Jasmine) also known as Parijaat in India. 2) Fragrant Roses. 3) night blooming jasmine (I bought a couple of plants from our local nursery but they do not have any fragrance to them) 4) Any other strong fragrant trees or fruit trees you may have. I've taken a couple of classes and attended a lot of crops with other scrapbookers. Why not get your group together to talk about what each person wants to learn? If most of them want to learn the basic's, as I suspect, then go ahead and plan to teach them about the tools they'll need, organization tips, and making a simple page or two. You can find a lot of info on line, as well as finding several good books to help you get started. As for supplies, look online and have them sent to you. Good luck and enjoy! Sue

Dear Mary, First I would go to your local Dollar Tree and see if they have any of the more regular supplies you need. (See earlier posting about Dollar Tree.) Second, I would see if you could find a friend or a couple of friends to buy, and share supplies with until you have the cash for your own. That way if each of you bought half then you would have twice the amount of the things you need quicker. If this is not possible, then try and find a crop class in your area where they bring some of the supplies to the crop and let you use them free. This allows you to use different items, to see if you even like them before spending the cash on them. Don't let this company or that one, try and tell you their product is better than the others. Acid free is just that acid free, no matter what the price tag. The extra money involved in the pricer suppliers pays their salary and commissions, not necessarily for a better or safer product. I have in my supplies brands from ALL different kinds of suppliers and I like different tools from each. Get what you like, and find easy to use, not what someone else does. But most of all have fun, and get double prints. LOL Penny

I have not done this myself, but I have seen postings on other boards. I think the standard going price is about $5.00 per hour plus supplies. I think it should be AT LEAST minimum wage but you can ask for what you think you can get. Most people will never understand how time consuming it really is! But I have heard it was easier to do other people's pics because you are not "close" to them. If you are going to include journaling you will need them to submit info so you will have it. If you can make ANY money at all, I say go for it !!! As for me, I might not live long enough to get all my own pics done!! Good luck! Rebecca

I would suggest that everyone try to find a scrapbooking group in your area. I'm a visual person, and it helps me to see what everyone else is doing. It's nice to see that you aren't the only one out there with the hobby and provides some motivation for getting stuff done.

We have a local store that offers a crop night each week and various classes throughout the year. Last night was my second time there. If you need ides or get stuck on something, you always have someone to ask for advice. The people who run the crop are helpful also. They often have ideas on things like cleaning up messes on a page, useful coverups, and they know the best places to look for ideas.

In addition to this crop night, I'm starting to get together with friends to scrapbook also. It's nice to be able to set aside time to scrapbook without the kids and have a little adult time.

There are a lot of sites out there that have collections of pages done by other scrappers. GracefulBee is a great place and the samples are classified into lots of different subject matters. Look there to get some ideas for your own pages.
