A friend of mine has a son with learning disabilities. He went to a special high school and once he graduated he went to a college that has special programs for kids like him. No uniform, though. I don't know the name, I just remember it is in Florida. But there were several schools they looked at. I would think a high school guidance counselor could help you, or even a local organization that helps parents advocate for their kids. Why does it need to have uniforms? If that is really important I think you will be greatly limiting your choices.

Not sure if directed at me, sylvia, but I have some thoughts. I think per student funding for K-12 in the US has been trending up. Is that wrong? I won't suggest education money is always well spent, but there is money in the system. Educating a diverse student population is more expensive and harder than educating a more homogeneous group. US schools and teachers have to deal with more familial social and economic problems that brings kids to school carrying a lot of baggage from problem homes. In Finland, with a more generous economic safety net and with more traditional and stable communities, even troubled families and youngsters have more support resources. I support higher pay for teachers, but along with that, I also support doing away with ironclad job security for teachers too. As in the private sector, money should be paid for performance, and non-performers shouldn't be able to continue in their jobs. I believe higher pay will attract more better-qualified teachers. As it is now, it's a job of lesser desirability to potential applicants because of salary levels. On the other hand, there's lots of vacation. As mentioned above, I'm not hopeful needed major changes will ever be made.

While I will admit that some do seem have difficulties navigating or posting (I think most of that is due to a less than ideally compatible device or browser) I do not find the new format any more difficult to work with or use or navigate than it was before. Different, yes.........but no less user friendly (in many ways it is more user-friendly). And I think some are just a lot more resistant to change than others :-) As an old time GW user (here since almost from the start in the late 90s with Spike), the site has gone through a lot of changes over the years and with different ownership, much good and some not so good. It took me just a couple of days to become comfy with the new format and I have no issues with it now. My primary complaint is with cross posting. While it is NOT a requirement, many seem to think it is so you get threads posted to 3 completely unrelated forums. And those new folks entering directly from the Houzz side of the platform with gardening questions do not realize there are several dozens of gardening forums and just post in the Gardens or Landscape Design forum (the only GW forum that shows up in the Houzz topics listing as well as GW) and I find that very irritating. The LD forum is frequently innundated with completely inappropriate questions!! And I don't find it to be any less of a "community" than it was before. Depending on what forums one frequents, all the same old regular posters are present for the most part with the same friendly interchange and bantering. 11otis, if you scroll up to the start of this thread, you will find that it is posted to the Soils, Compost and Mulch forum in addition to a couple of others. Click on that forum title and it will take you directly to ALL the threads on that forum. Really couldn't be much easier............. :-)

I want to share my experience and frustration with Whirlpool service just as a heads up/warning to anyone researching appliances. Less than two weeks ago I had the latest, top-of-the-line Whirlpool washer & dryer (WFW9620H & WGD9620H) installed. Right out of the box there is a sheet identifying a bug in the system telling you not to use a certain feature or the washer won't work. Strike 1 So it's clear Whirlpool is very slow to fix things. Then within minutes of installation I notice other problems. So I call and the support guy on the phone says "These are new so I don't know much about them." This is maddening after spending so much money. Train your people! Strike 2 I explain the issues so the guy creates two trouble tickets and tells me that if nobody calls me in a week *A WEEK!!!!* that I should call to "remind" them. I shouldn't have to wait a week for a response. Miele & Sub-Zero resolve issues in one day, if they can't solve it over the phone they schedule service call. Strike 3 I wait a week and nobody calls. Strike 4 So I call and I'm told I identified some problems which they weren't aware of and they have a "fix" but there is no ETA. Strike 5 I don't know how it's possible they don't know this problem exists because they involve setting the time which is one of the first things you do during set up. Does Whirlpool do any testing at all? Am I really the first person to report these bugs or do they just not track bugs? Strike 6 Given the fact there is no fix for the problems the washer originally shipped with I'm not expecting a fast resolution to these newly identified problems with the washer and dryer. Strike 7 Moral of the story - Buy Whirlpool appliances at your own risk. For me, never again. The only reason I haven't returned them is because the store I bought them from has indefinitely extended the return window. As long as these problems remain unfixed, they will let me return the w&d for refund or exchange. I have another story of massive frustration with Thermador. I'll post that later. The first appliances I had installed in my new house were Miele and Sub-Zero and I think I got spoiled. Their service is insanely good. I'm not sure I expected the same from Whirlpool (didn't expect it to be this bad either) but I did from Thermador.
