My daughter is in second grade. In her class they do a daily writing journal where they have to write a paragraph on a topic of her choice. She often has difficulty coming up with a topic. Therefore, I am trying to develop a list of possible topics for her to consult when she is having trouble. I have found many lists of high-school related topics, but I can not find any that are good for elementary. Has anyone ever come across a list? or have any suggestions?

For second grade...how about her favorite food, color, friends, places, toys, movies, etc., and a breif "why" with them? Maybe she could write about a special time she had with a relative, or a vacation, a pet? Her favorite season, or "Why I like fall....", hope I helped get you started!:)

Yes he is a ham, every second of every day, just like his dad. :) When we finish? Not if, I like that! I was talking with a friend the other day about how plodding along, a year from now I'd be looking graduation square in the face. And the house would be finished. I stopped in my tracks and realized, it's not gonna be too awfully long until I can sit back and look at the accomplishments, and rest. Lots and losts of rest. Then, I'll probably think of something else to do, knowing me. I guess that makes me an ENFJ. I was having a hard time deciding if I acted then thought and then acted again, but obviously, I do!!!

He doesnt seem to be having as many problems at the school since hes been with us well as in getting in trouble, his work is scruffy hes behind in reading and writing, when i use to help with his homework and check his books every night his school work did improve but how our relationship is at the moment i dont involve myself with none of that now his dad does it we hardly talk to each other and last time i did check his school journal he had ripped the pages out so i couldnt see if he had homework. We did go to the doctors about him who sent us to counseling well they see just him really then wrote to us saying they dont feel like they needed anymore appointments with him. It might sound far fetched but i do believe he knows what hes doing and can act like a very decent polite child when ever he feels he needs too. I do think he has some kind of issue but nobody seems to want to listen or help us

Rob, you have a full calendar every which way. Hope the medicine men can find out what causes your reactions. Never had any allergies until after chemo, since then Flonase and Benadryl are on my daily diet. Did you really think LF listen to your advise? My two would not hear me but to a neighbor who stood right next to me and said the same thing. When they had to talk to their young ones, they had the same experiences and complained that they would not listen to them. I just laughed. Hope your winterizing gets finished. Love your updates.

Yes, it's been a long time. He had such a hard time at the beginning of school, but he's really hit his stride. I can't imagine him off at university, and I totally can. He's really in another world, far outside of mine, even within mine. The man I spoke of, the bioinformatician I talked about? He works with me. Obama's staff tried hard to get him to head up the new Precision Medicine initiative, but he stayed at my employers. He's really good. But, the point? He and LF (who is inches taller than I am, and just passed me up in weight. NOT little) were talking about directions for university, and they were talking about actual computer science language and writing equations on my white erase board that looks like total Greek to me. LF stood toe to toe with him and added to the conversation. He's gonna do well. I was floored. And proud. Despite all he's been through, he'll be more than all right.

Students write best about what they know. So make a list of things she knows about--her favorite ball game--how to play it, recess game, dessert, grandma, song. What her room looks like, what she likes on TV, what she wouold eat for her meal of favorite foods, what her brother or sister is like.

Thanks for all of your help. I printed your responses and my daughter highlighted those that interested her. She put them in her writing folder for those time when she has writer's block.

I had to do the same when I was in second grade. One day my teacher asked me how many cousins I had because it was always "my cousin's" birthday party.
