Need to VENT...

Hi everyone! I'm here tonight to release my frustrations! If anyone can relate, please join in!:)

I am taking classes at the Community College, and of course there are kids fresh out of high school in my classes. Now, I understand that they are MUCH younger than I, and maybe it's their energy, but I am so tired of these kids who take up class time to argue with teachers for NO apparant reason other than to hear their own voices or impress thier friends. I hate to be so bad, but I am there to learn, and I appreciate my opportunity to be able to do so! The professors humor the situations for a short time, and eventually cut them off, but still, it happens again and again. I know that some of these kids are only there because their parents made them go, and some just don't care one way or another about learning, they take classes to fill up credits. I wish I could be more positive here, but it truly bothers me! I am NOT they type of person to speak up to a fellow student about their annoying behavior, besides, that could only make it worse for me.

Just wanted to VENT!! Thanks! :) Any ideas of course are welcome!! :)

Hm, when I was a fresh out of HS college student, if we argued with the instructor is was because we weren't prepared for the class - hadn't read, done the homework, etc. It was BS-ing to stall!

I know when I was in college I could get annoyed with time-wasters, and I wasn't much better. So I can only imagine how much it would annoy me now, as a *real* adult with other, more pressing, demands on my time and energy.

If you live up north maybe and maybe not. If the house has lasted that long with out any ice daming and roof rot I'd not be too concerned. I lived in a house that was built back in 1826 in Ct and it had no roof vents at all. There was never any kind of rot at all. We just opened the windows all summer and it was fine. I now live in Florida and have 2 solar vents in the roof and two 120v fans on either end of the gables one pulling air in and one out. I have no eve vents and I have insulation right up to the eves. This house has been here since 1923 and with all my improvements it should last till the next ice age. Your biggest concern is ice daming and eve rot from snow build up. If you have this problem you might wish to fix the problem but if not save your money

I also have to vent. I recently purchased 16 panels of the PB linen silk blend drapes expecting the length to be 96 inches (silly me). They are all different lengths varying up to 4 inches. I wish I had done my research and read these reviews prior to my purchase but I expected to receive a PB quality product. Theses drapes are definitely not cheap according to my definition. PB told me this length variation was to be expected and acted as if I was being completely unreasonable to expect the drapes to all be 96 inches in length. They also told me they never received complaints on these drapes. From all these posts I can see that is not true. They told me if the different lengths "bothered me" they would keep ordering until I got 8 the same length. I finally gave up and went to a tailor to have them re-hemmed at my expense. Lesson learned. Buyer beware.

I think there is some level of I don't know..common sense? For example that custom made tile that ends up not being used doesn't go in the garbage bag? Or that you don't throw out 20 perfectly good dimmers or bulbs, just because you used your subcontractor's account to purchase them, and had too many? Or if you take out the old door, and there are two surfaces in front of you that you can lean that door against, one of them being a wall, other- a living bush with flowers-wouldn't it make sense to lean the door against the wall? I can't assume, that's right..obviously operational systems sometimes are very different. Sometimes I can't even imagine things that I can't or can assume.

I think cleaning IS hard labor if it's done right! I always hated doing it (and eventually hired a cleaner), but now it is physically impossible to do so. Yes, I have had things stolen, My husband was doing math tutoring for a girl and asked her parents if they knew of any good cleaning help (we'd just moved and needed someone badly). They gave us the name of their cleaner and raved about her. She worked for me for about 3 months, and finally, before a party when I got out all the sterling flatware to polish it, I realized that she had stolen one entire place setting, probably one piece at a time. I would notice a piece was missing but though perhaps a plate had been taken out of the kitchen/dining room (against the rules in my family) and had the missing fork/spoon on it. My husband asked the people if they had had this problem, and they admitted that they're just fired her for stealing, too! I have had workmen steal When we were doing major remodeling, the workmen arrived early one day and I was not quite ready for them, and left my "everyday" jewelry on my dressing table - frantic to get dressed. When they left that day, I could follow the footsteps of the drywall men down the hall and into my bedroom (they had no reason to be there). And yes, my jewelry was gone. One piece had tremendous sentimental value. I immediately called my GC, she spoke to the head of the drywall company. Of course, they all denied they had taken it and when confronted about the footprints, said they were looking for the bathroom (they walked right past it to get to my bedroom and yes, the door WAS open!). Couldn't prove anything, so nothing I could do. BTW, that "bonding" meant nothing if it could not be proven! My homeowner's insurance did pay, but the piece with sentimental value, was irreplaceable. Since then, I have always kept my jewelry that I was not wearing locked up. No, it is not a lock that one could not jimmy, but it would damage the wood and be a bit obvious. When I leave town, the alarm is on and all jewelry that doesn't go with me is in the large safe (weighs about 700 pounds). I don't lock up all the silver, but if the time comes for me to have health care workers, I will have DD put all the silver in the safe. I do lock up any with major value or big sentimental value to me. By the time they died, virtually all my mothers good friends had had all their silver and jewelry stolen piece by piece, by their caregivers. It is not unusual. I have friends who have had the same thing happen to their mothers/MIL's.

Yeah...I'm "better" today!:) I just truly appreciate this opportunity, and I never took school seriously when I was young, I regret that now, of course! I wish I could take more evening classes when there are more adults, the "kids" are there during the day, and I'm not at all saying that they SHOULDN'T be there...everyone has a right to education, I just wish they wouldn't waste MY time! :)

They may be teaching you more than you realize now. If you are to be a teacher, you may gain alot now in how to handle the situation when you face it in the classroom. Solomon said, "there is nothing new under the sun". They may be wasting their time but they don't need to waste yours. Just turn it into a positive.

it never seems to fail, that there is always that one student in every class who argues or questions the teacher!

although it can be annoying, it can also be benefical when studying to become a teacher as you can observe how the teacher responds and keeps the class on task

but I know how you feel! I take night classes and when class doesn't get out until 9 - 9:30pm the last thing you want to do is be delayed by someone challenging and asking irrelevant questions!

Good advice gardenboy. You will learn more in most classes by watching how the other students learn than by listening to the teacher.

I've been in classes with a mixture of young people and older people in community colleges, 4-year colleges, and graduate school and there are advantages to both ages. Younger people can be frivolously argumentative, but older people can be intellectually comatose, clearly there because they need to make more money, not because they really care to learn anything. As I move higher in academia, I become more interested in taking classes with younger people, who seem to be there to learn instead of to advance their careers, whereas when I was lower, I tried to take classes with older people because their experience gave them more insight into the course material.

A good teacher will turn a stupid question/argument into an opportunity to teach better. If teachers are just arguing back briefly to shut down the student's argument so they can continue to drone on about stuff they already know, I would complain about the TEACHERS, because they are lazy and boring.

Seems if you have been on vacation... I have missed you. Welcome back. We do learn from others if we are willing and have interest. Life is filled with choices. Just adding another two sense.(play on words)
