Off topic good news to share

Our family added baby #4 on Monday, June 3.

We had a boy, Zachary. 9lbs 15oz, 21-3/4ins long. Things got complicated in delivery due to his size, got a little scary. His left arm was broken in the effort to get him out, between the shoulder and elbow. But it could have been worse than a broken arm, so we are very thankful he is happy, healthy and beautiful.

Big brothers and sisters are madly in love with him already. It's awkard to deal with the arm, but otherwise things are good.

But that is why you might not see much of me for a while!

Great... Good news. Keep us informed. I feel you will. Take care. Children are one of God's greatest gifts...along with those gifts comes those responsibilities. (love, care, etc.) Mothers are just real important and so are dads...

Interesting theory! -- and it sounds like you may be onto something. It could also be kind of an ingrained habit and he's doing it without even realizing. I mean, with divorced parents, it's really common to have an underground 'best parent' contest going. Could be he's doing the same thing to you and doesn't even realize it. Have you ever discussed it with him? If he gets all indignant, you could just say that the idea occurred to you and you wondered what he thought about it. Then walk away quickly to encourage him to think about it but not argue with you about why it's not true. If he insists that's not what's going on, then I'd just do the 'standard' we need to be on the same page so we're not playing the "good parent / bad parent" game. Then try to agree on some core rules that both of you will enforce. Definitely something to nip in the bud!

Devsense...That is the one and only 'Pope John Paul' the first rose..It is one of the most fragrant I have ever had besides sea roses...You have to make sure you protect the stump for winter though which you probably already know) Brian,those are some SOME SPECTACULAR CLOUDS buddy!! I use to get those kind all the time until they cut all the forest away around here. And those flowers are just so pretty..Is that in your new place or your old one? If your old one, you better dig those up buddy! Thanks for the beautiful pics) I see that Citrus Tree towering over those perennials....Marvelous, just marvelous like those clouds Laura, that's a GREAT question!! I can find out for you). I will have to post a pic on the cactus forums and come back for you. I have always wondered what it was too..It has the most beautiful flowers and can be grown like a Bonsai..The more often you cut it hard back, the thicker the stump gets and the more robust. I love this one. The funny thing is that for a succulent, it loves to be watered and not left to dry out..

Hi Pagan, I'm glad you mentioned they're edible. I will have to try putting the petals in salad. It will certainly make an interesting presentation! I use the petals to make hot or iced Agua di Jamaica tea with fresh ginger, lemon, orange blossoms, splenda, and a dash of vanilla ... or any combination thereof. Just boil water, remove from heat, add ingredients to your liking (I use the petals of 10 flowers), cover, and allow to steep 20 mins. The Hibiscus initially turns the water very dark purple. When you add the lemon it turns very bright red. When heated, the petals have the consistency of aloe. This is actually a refreshing health drink in the Caribbean. Prepackaged hibiscus tea bags can be used instead. There are a few recipes online. The petals with cinnamon lowers blood pressure.

Those lemon bars sound really good, perennialfan. I like simple recipes too! This is one of my favorites: KeyLimeCheesecake This makes one large pie. Ingredients Crust: 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup quick oats 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/4 teasp bake powder 1/2 stick butter Filling: 1/2 cup heavy cream 3 1/2 cups cream cheese (1 1/2 to 2 - 12 oz containers of whipped crm cheese) at room temperature 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt grated rind and juice of 1 or 2 limes 4 large eggs Instructions Bake the crust for 10 to 15 minutes at 350, just until set. Remove it from the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 275°F. Pour the batter into the crust and bake the cake for 60 to 75 minutes, until the center still jiggles slightly. Turn the oven off, crack the door, and let the cheesecake cool in the oven for 1 hour.

I've been wondering about that baby! I'm glad he's here, and you are both safe (though scarred, perhaps).

Woo Hoo a new baby. I hope he heals up quickly. Thankfully it is only a broken arm. As you said it could have been worse.

BTW-I have a Zachary. I hope your Zachary is as sweet and loving as mine.

Sorry, I've been reading without doing much posting lately, arms full.

My little guy will be one month tomorrow. He is doing great. The splint/cast sort of thing (the doc's original creation for the situation) was taken off last Thursday. He squirmed out of it twice and had to have a new ones put on! (We've nicknamed him Houdidi.) But now it's off for good. The arm is working great. We were waiting to be sure there was no nerve damage, and there doesn't seem to be, his little fingers wiggle all over the place. There is a lump of bone growth over the place where it was broken making it just a little bigger around than the other arm (like he's been working on the bicep). The bones are not exactly aligned, because it isn't practical to surgically put them back together in a newborn. If you know the arm was broken and *look* for a difference, you can see it. But it's not real obvious and it's only cosmetic, the arm works just like the other one. The doctor says that as he is growing quickly at this age, the arm will "remold" itself so that a year from now there will be no difference.

We still have another check up on it in a couple weeks, but it looks like all's well that ends well. The medical term for the complication we experienced is shoulder dystocia, head delivers normally but the shoulders get stuck, could have been a lot worse, so we are so relieved all is well now. Thank you for thinking of us!
