Thanks to all of your advice on this thread and past threads, we purchased the floor model G5775SCSFSS. It was selling for $1708, but because of the sale and a few scratches on the top control panel near the corner we snagged it for $1280. The scratches aren't visible when the door is shut. I'm not sure what full retail was originally, but it seems like a good deal. I would have even gone up in models if they had had one on clearance. Redoingit--I appreciate your experience. Sparkling--thank you for pulling up those specs. Covingtoncat--Mine is a Q4. I'm noise sensitive so I figured the quieter the better. Plus, the price was better on the Dimension Plus anyway even with the sale. Odd, huh? A2--I won't relate the fact that the noise started right after you visited.... ;) the racking system is the newest configuration, I think. Rococo--I appreciate you chiming in as I've read many of your posts with your experiences. Thanks to you, I know to ask to have the Miele hooked up to cold water. My concern about the handle protrusion was alleviated when I saw the store display. I think it will tuck mostly under the marble overhang. There isn't a good spot near the cleanup sink for a towel to hang so the bar handle will be handy. The photo you posted is very informative. Thanks!! Deeageaux--Thanks for the link. With the installation scheduled for Tuesday, I have a couple of remaining questions. I'd like to get the DW running ASAP as I'm sick of washing two DW loads per day by hand, and we're having a dinner party Thursday night. 1. Is the filler strip something that can be easily DIY'd by DH after install? Obviously it can't be here by Tuesday if I order it tomorrow. 2. I'm confused about the salt issue. Will the tech help me through this? Do I need salt if my water hardness is "slightly hard" at 55-60 mg/L? Is this regular salt or a special Miele salt? 3. Do I need any other special Miele products? 4. I've been using jet dry and Finish Powerball tabs in my old Kenmore. Are these OK to use? I have about a year's supply of each thanks to Costco coupons. Thank you all again so much! I'm looking forward to posting rave reviews of my Miele in future threads. :-)

Based on your brief description, I would guess that your photo eyes down near the floor are not properly aligned. Does the door refuse to close when you push the wall switch? Or, do you have to hold the wall switch until the door closes? If you have to hold it, then the photo eyes are definetly out of whack. Re align the two photo eyes so that they are looking directly at each other, not tilted down towards the floor or any other direction. It's imperative that they be looking at each other. We know your lock switch isn't activated because you say the remotes will open the door, so the photo eyes have to be the problem.

Several years ago we helped my son make a model of DNA using pipe cleaners and styrofoam balls. Now I've noticed that they sell DNA kits at Michael's and the Rag Shop. I don't know if that will be acceptable for the science fair though- the teachers might think it's not creative enough, especially when several children show up with the exact same thing!

Maybe this is one of the reasons the US Government has decided the minimum SEER rating in the southern states..... Then why would the US Government use the SEER rating as opposed to EER? You've answered your own question more or less. SEER and EER mean the same thing more or less, the only difference as stated earlier is the S which means seasonal. (So not only do you have daily changes in temperature, but also seasonal.) Weathermen have been tracking temperatures for a long time. This is how they know when a new high or low record occurs. These changes can then be taken to determine a good estimate as to the efficiency of the equipment while operating. They know based on set point of 75 degree indoor this area will have equipment run times of 2200 hours. (Houston area specific) This changes from one climate to another based on set points, ambient conditions etc. The US Government decides on minimum SEER ratings for a variety of reasons, one of which is to off set the load on the electrical grid. The south, especially Texas in particular has crazy growth rates compared to other northern climates. So as there is growth, the more efficient the equipment, the less strain there is on the electric grid (which is under immense strain during heat waves) brown outs, and rolling black outs would make for civic unrest and you'd have a mess on your hands like the world has never seen in a state that depends on air conditioning for upwards of 10 months of the year. Efficiency also keeps those electric bills down, so it's not a bad thing in that respect either. If you save $50 on your light bill, you spend that $50 some where else. Which in turn supports another part of the economy. Manufacturer's could fudge an EER number. For one you would need to know what constant temperature they selected for the EER number. Because remember this figure is determined by a 'constant temperature'. You could select 80 degrees. Everyone knows that at 80 degree ambient an air conditioner has a slightly higher capacity at lower temps. So what happens if the manufacturer changed it to 78 degrees. It would give you a slightly better EER. There are a few manufacturers that do not divulge these kinds of numbers. Why do you suppose that is? (to dupe the uninformed.) what other reason could there be? fill in the blank.
