Can This Picture be Changed to Landscape?

I'm doing a Glass Block light for my MIL. I'm putting a picture of her Grandparents on one side and I want to use this one (DH's Dad and siblings) on the back. I need this pic to be a 5" X 7" landscape. Can anyone do that. I've worked on it off and on all morning and I'm not getting anywhere with it. ): I don't care about the background,etc. as long as the Dad and kids show up!

I'm sure PhotoBucket will resize this, but I have it scanned (200dpi) and saved and could email it to someone.

The way I understand you is:
You want one picture size 5x7 that has the grandparents on the left side and this picture on the right side?
Yes it can be done but would help if the grandparents Pic was here too get the images to match each other in size.

Oh oh,
I reread your post and find you want this picture to be a 5x7?
The only way I can think of, to keep the proportions correct is to fill the space to the sides or side with something or leave blank?
I will play with it.
I know someone will beat me to it but it will be interesting to have more than one to view here.

When I looked at the first pic I thought, that's not overrun, that's just mature. But then I saw it in scale with your home and you have a point--those are some BIG grasses. What about replacing with some smaller grasses and planting some perennials like coneflower, gaillardia, sedum, etc? I think to the left of the driveway looks fine except that cedar looks a bit ill. I really like the idea of grasses in your landscape--maybe you could replace it with an ornamental grass? As far as the azalea garden, maybe you could fill in where there are empty spaces with some hosta while the shrubs are growing? I really love your choice of trees--such beautiful shapes and textures.

I've come to understand that organic mulch -- shredded wood chips etc. has more than one function ... I inherited beds mulched with gravel. It's gone in one main area. It's "buried" in others. I've let it be in my iris bed because they like the heat reflection and drainage it -- the gravel -- has given to the basically clay soil of my yard. I wouldn't have done it that way, and the gravel, although still sort of looking like a "mulch" permits plenty of weeds to do their thing. Rocks, gravel, whatever have their own maintenance issues, not least of which is that weeds soon take up residence. Laying landscape cloth ... ask just about anyone here who has gardened for 10 years or more ... won't prevent weeds for long and becomes an immediate hassle when trying to plant something into the area. It doesn't take long for enough soil to be added on top of the gravel layer to make it possible for weeds to grow. And, trust me on this, weeding out of a gravel mulch bed v an organic one takes longer and is far rougher on the hands that weed the cradle ... I mean the flower bed. When you mulch by renewing an organic mulch ... 1. You are freshening your weed suppressant layer. 2. You are reducing your watering chore in a way that more sun reflectant, heat absorbent materials, like gravel, won't do. The organic mulches provide shade and moisture protection for plants. 3. You are actually improving the tilthe or structure of your soil. If you aren't growing any plants in your gravel that you like, then you can, of course, use weed killers. And there are some instances when gravel makes sense. Maybe this is such a case. In fact, I hear ya' on getting beds mulched each year. It's just that it wouldn't be true to give the impression to others reading here that gravel is a magical eternal weed barrier. it isn't. And, it has it's own negatives. Thanks for responding, everyone. Ruth, how lucky you are to have a gardener next door. Neither of my neighbors was one until a young lady moved in to the house with a sunken yard this spring. She created a beautiful vegetable garden immediately after moving in. She did not know that that garden will be submerged in heavy rain. I will help her mulch and share with her my loads of manure.....something that the neighbor who moved out did not want. luckygal, I believe you are right; the end of our yard was submerged when we first moved in 28 years ago. That part next door becomes a regular lake after a heavy rain especially when the ground has not thawed in srping and the puddle gets larger every year. :-P toxcrusadr, THAT is a very creative answer. :-D Thank you for giving me a good laugh.

It is sad. I cannot imagine how awful it is there. I know how bad we look here, and we are, oddly enough, one of the wetter areas overall. I don't mean that we are wet--we are dry and crunchy with cracks in the ground up to 1.5" wide--but our year-to-date rainfall remains close to average even though it was way above average in the winter and early spring months and so we're sort of coasting on that long-ago rainfall. Knowing how bad we look with good rainfall, I cannot imagine how it looks there with poor rainfall. One thing I've noticed in the last 6 weeks or so is that trees that appeared to survive last year's drought, leafed out fully this spring, looked green and gorgeous, etc. now have dropped their leaves and appear to be dead. I know such delayed death is common following exceptional drought periods, but it is some of the trees I love most---including two separate groves of mature native Persimmon trees that had the most gorgeous golden-orange foliage every September. One of them is about 1/3 mile south of our place and the other is about 1.25 miles east. So far, knock on wood, our younger and smaller grove of native persimmon trees looks good. I hope we don't lose them. It is mind-boggling how long y'all have been without significant rainfall. Tim and I were walking the edge of woodland beside my garden last night and looking at all the oak trees there that are just collapsing and falling to the ground, also likely to be a delayed death from stress. We will have a lot of deadfall and dead standing trunks to clean up this winter. Scott, are you going to haul water to the pecan trees this month or just leave them in Mother Nature's hands? Your fire danger there must be outrageously high. If all those dry trees start burning......well, I don't even want to think about it. It will be so very bad. Dawn

If this is what you had in mind,
In PSP8, I go up to File, Print Layout, and drag it on to the sheet and it prints out at 5x7.
A person could do a fancier background but I just wanted to see what and if it could "really" be done? "lol"

Yep...that's what I had in mind!*S* I wouldn't care if some of the "greenery" was eliminated...with more focus of the people. Can that be done?

What if you made the portrait in the center and cutouts of each person enlarged on the sides? With a blurred mask around each.

Great idea,Urlee! If you want to play around with it some more..go ahead. I haven't started on the back of the block yet (the FRONT is driving me nuts..lol). From color pics I've seen of the kids, I'm betting the little boy on the left (my BIL) has on probaby blue shorts and maybe a lighter blue shirt. The little 'un on the right (my DH) would probably have on something similiar. As for my FIL....I'm thinking maybe gray pants and a white shirt. Anyway you want to do it is fine though...I'm sure my MIL doesn't remember what they all had on the day the pic was taken. (is there anyway to get that pen? pencil? line off my FIL arm and shirt?)

hey Urlee,
how about cutting the larger kids from the picture and moving them up near the adult's face level, then zooming in on just the torso of the adult, and having the people larger in the photo? that way the field is less of a detractant.
I don't have PS loaded at the moment, but it should not be too difficult.
