can't open up psp images in as

Hi,

Whenever I try to open a graphic saved as as a PSPimage in Animation Shop I get this message:

I know it must be somewhere in Preferences, but I don't know just where....

This has been happening for some time now, and it is getting annoying...

Thanks for any help any of you smart people can provide!!

Elly, when you save your image, are you choosing the .psp file that is at the top of the dropdown list, it will say animation next to it. If you save it as a regular psp image it won't open in ani shop. Hope this helps, if not holler and I will do a screen shot for you. Deb

This is how I am saving it - it is not at the top of the drop down list so I think I am dong something when I save it in the first place!

Should I be saving it in Animation Shop? I am using PSP8 by the way.

Following are instructions on posting an image using an imaging hosting service called Photobucket. These instructions were posted by a member of the forum several years ago, but still work. One I like to use is called Photobucket. If you use it, here are some instructions I've posted at another forum. It's not as detailed as it could be, but it'll get you started. No worry about kbs this way. Go to photobucket.com. Set up an account. Upload your pix there. Below each pic are 3 URLs for you to use. Click on (highlight) the middle one (2nd one, says TAG-starts with "img src") & right click mouse -click on Copy. Come back here. Write your post. After you type whatever info you want to give us, (put cursor in message box 1st) right click your mouse & Paste URL into message box (not the Optional Link URL box). Click Preview --you should see your pic. If so, click Submit button. If not, go back & be sure you copied entire URL. (It's easier if you open a 2nd browser window & go bk & forth between GW & Potobucket.) Depending on what settings you used for your camera, you may/may not want to resize at Photobucket. There is that option too. Try it out & see how large you want it to show up. This way you are not limited to the 60k upload limit here, but keep in mind larger pix load slower for many people & irritates some. :P The site mentioned above is free but accepts donations for their wonderful service. Lynn, Are you using 'Windows XP', 'Vista', or some other operating system? You mentioned 'Superantispyware' removing "several spywares". Have you also run a full scan with your 'anti-virus' program? If not, update and run a full scan. Something else I overlooked when I read your initial post, I see you're using AOL 9.1. I'm still using AOL 9.0 SE, so there may be some changes to the way things are done in 9.1 as far as repairing the software. I'm not even sure they have the same features in 9.1 so let's forget about 'rebuilding the AOL adapter' for now. Someone else using that version of AOL will have to jump in here. If you have the 'AOL' icon down in the system tray (by the clock) you can right click that and see what options there are. System Restore is painless and if you don't get the results you want you just 'undo' the restore. If you had any kind of virus or spyware infection and you restore to a time when your machine was infected, yes, it will restore those infections, but you can always run your anti-virus and anti-spyware applications again to remove them. I can't say for certain whether or not 'system restore' will affect your bookmarks but it is always a good idea to back up anything on your computer that you cannot afford to lose or want the hastle of having to replace. There can never be enough said about the importance of backing up important data! I use Acronis True Image which makes an image of the complete hard drive, sector by sector, that will restore everything including operating system, programs, documents, pictures, data, etc. to the 'T'. This is on a second drive in my PC in case my primary drive should fail. I also have an external hard drive where I back up 'My Documents'. "I also ran ccleaner right after the updates (I thought at first that that was the problem) - should I rerun that as well?" No, running CCleaner again is not going to fix the problem, nor do I see where CCleaner would have created your problem, unless by chance, if you also used the 'Registry' feature in CCleaner, it may have removed something. Anytime you use any kind of registry cleaner it should have the option of making a backup in case things go wrong, which is exactly why most cleaners, some don't, have the backup option. Either that or create a 'system restore' point before you use it. Using a 'registry cleaner' is a hot topic. Some swear by them, others swear at them! I personally have use Macecraft 'Reg Supreme' for years with no ill effects. "There may have been an easier way to do this, but I just copied and pasted all the bookmarks I made_____". There is: Internet Explorer has an 'import/export' feature for transferring or backing up your cookies and favorites. Click on 'File' in the Menu bar at the top of the IE browser, select 'Import/Export', and follow the Wizard. You can save them to a file on your computer for retrieval later if you should need to do so using the same wizard. I made a folder called 'Backups' in the 'My Documents' folder where I store a copy of my 'cookies' and 'favorites'. In Firefox, I'm still using version 2.0.0.16, if you go to 'Bookmarks' in the Menu bar and select 'Organize bookmarks' and click on 'File', you'll find an 'Import' and 'Export' wizard. Drink some 'brave' juice and try the system restore first to see if that works. Witz

Yes, Urlee....I scanned the negatives just like a photo....I should have mentioned that they were black & white negatives, guess they hadn't invented color back then.....* G *.... I figured that if the Negative Image setting, under Adjust, would change a photo into a negative then maybe it would change a negative into a photo; & it did! Psp never ceases to amaze me! Well, I uninstalled the program & reinstalled it again. Nothing changed, still same problems. Then a couple days later & went to try & figure it out again & the program was working correctly like it used to. Don't know what happened but I am not to thrilled with this version but I have it now so will mess with it once in a while. For now I prefer PSP7 LOL Thanks for the tips. Still haven't managed to download the patches since my dial up connection is so slow. Terri

That's the only thing I don't like about PSP8 and PSPX is worse! You can't open PSPX images in 8 or 7!

Thanks Urlee - it was Elly that asked the question, but I had the same problem. I heard that once before and forgot.....so glad I was lurking and learned again. These Sr. moments are getting closer and closer together.

Well folks,
This is what I did:
I saved it Animation Shop(psp) as you said Urlee (although your screen shot seems to be gone this morning), and it opened in Animation Shop with an extra frame.
Maybe I should back up here and tell you I am doing this tut:

Well, it looked awful, so I deleted the extra frames (there were 4 images) and this is how it looks now: I am not displeased.
Please folks, try to be patient with me as I am obviously just beginning...LOL

I just did that tute to see what it was about.

Did you have a blank frame inbetween each name in animation shop?

Before saving, did your layers look like this?

Mine did, so I went back and to each saved image, I right clicked on the floating layer, chose Promote Selection to Layer.
Then I went up to Selections, Select none, Layers, Merge visible----Then I saved as image 1.
Do the same to the rest. The key was to merge visible before saving.

Hope that does it for you.

ALSO, Instead of saving each one to have to open in AS using the wizard just:

Right click on floating selections in the layer palette, Promote Selection to Layer > Selections, Select none > Right click image, Copy merged > Go to Animation Shop and Right click work area, & Paste as new Animation for the first one.
The rest, you do the same thing, only in AShop, you go up to Edit, and Paste After Current Frame.
Then test the animation and save it.

Yes, I did have a blank frame between each frame in Animation Shop - So I simply went in and deleted the four blank frames and this is what I have:

I'll try it your way next time....

I think I'm getting better at this. Now this is what it looks like when I do it following Urlee's excellent instructions:

It's the same Elly but if it was merged before saving which is "according to Hoyle", if you get what I mean, then you wouldn't get those blank frames inbetween in AS.
No harm done but can confuse a person if they didn't know deleting the blanks could fix it like you did.
I think the tutor forgot the step about merging unless her image was not floating like ours?
Anyway, I like the fact I don't have to save each one and re-open later to animate by following the steps I posted above.
