Ripping out my lawn was the best thing I ever did. No more of this craziness spending time fertility, mowing and reseeding. Who would want your kids playing in grass that has so many chemicals in it anyways. You don't have to put the typical desert stuff to replace the lawn. You can put in nice shrubs, ground cover, trees , veggies. Get creative AZ.

I'm not sure how the humidity is in your area but that might be a factor in growing certain bamboos. The bamboos will probably need more water than in higher humid areas. I personally would try one of the Bambusas, of which Punting Pole belongs, however, my Punting Pole Bamboo does not have really thick walls but then it needs a warmer climate than I have here also which could be a factor. Oldhamii might be one to look into if you want really thick culms and the culm walls are relatively thick too. The thickest culmed Bambusa I have grown is Bambusa pervariabilis 'Viridistriatus' but was sold to me as Bambusa eutuldoides 'Viridivittata' which is smaller but also thick culmed. B perv. 'Viridistriatus' is so thick you can use them as bats. Very thick walled. It is also a colourful bamboo but also a rare one so it may be a bit more expensive. One thing to remember about bamboo, and I guess any plant for that matter, the plants can grow very differently in different climates and soils. I have taken divisions from my original Textilis bamboo and they all seem to grow a bit different, even when planted only yards apart. Amount of sun, amount of water, type of soil, fertilizer, and surrounding plants all contribute to how your bamboo will grow. Kt

Never tried growing a palm in peatmoss... might want to repot it in something a bit more nutritious and mildly acidic pH with fertilizer (not much). I recommend ordinary potting soil, or palm special. Looks like burn from either poor water, or a nutritional excess/deficiency (though salt excess will often do that).

Photos of the foliage would help with a diagnosis. "Drip" may not be providing enough water for the fertilizer applied and the low night temps might be affecting its availability, even with the warmer day temps. Check the soil to see if it seems moist enough. Often, extra water can help. Without water, fertilizer doesn't dissolve, doesn't get taken up well and/or builds to toxic levels in the plant. I'd post clear photos of the suspected issue first; check how damp the soil is and apply more water if it seems too dry, second.

OK...I am new here...what is a TUT??? I use PSP but your guys are all so way ahead of me. I have a graphics web design sight for web site graphics but you guys have it all over me. I have not tried my "animation shop" yet...maybe that's my problem. LOL!

Welcome uneamie - at last I can help you. A "tut" is short form for tutorial...... like the link that jacksmum or Sue, gave you in Day 40 for I believe in Magic. There are lots and lots of tutorials for PSP.... you follow them, step by step and learn how to do all kinds of interesting things. Some learn faster than others, and some of us forget what we learn as soon as we try to learn another step (talking about myself of course).
