Hi, I downloaded this software from the website listed below to record my albums and tapes to CD, using the computer. It was very easy to use. The program comes with audible instructions and wizards to walk you through it (including which jacks to use on your computer). It will automatically set the record level or you can adjust it however you like. It did not require a pre-amp...just plug in the tape deck to your computer. The turntable may or may not need a pre-amp, but the program will detect it, to let you know.I got the wire to hook it up at Radio Shack for just a few dollars. One end will have the RCA ends for your stereo equipment, and the other end will have the miniature jack for your computer. There was no loss of quality, and I was able to actually get a better sound on some songs with the built in equalizer. Sometimes files can be obliterated from SD cards (and in fact segments can become inaccessible) if the card is removed from a PC without being first dismounted/ejected. Especially if it has been opened by a program and the program is still active, that might have happened at Walmart. I hope the copies on the SD card weren't your only copies. If so, you may be out of luck. If it's important to you, you may want to take the card to a local PC technician (not Geek Squad at Best Buy) to seen if an industrial strength recovery tool might work. It's better to make duplicate copies of photo files from SD cards at your first opportunity. Onto a PC or two, onto an external drive, or both ways. To take files for prints, use a duplicate file copy that you're okay losing if there's a problem. Any one of the following will work - a thumb drive, an SD card used only for this purpose, a burned CD (they cost less than a dime), or even just upload the files directly to the store's website.
