I cannot get my Epson V100 scanner to launch

Hello Everyone
I cannot get my Epson perfection V100 scanner to even start correctly. It is telling me that there is an error but it doesn't tell me what error it is. I cannot seem to find my orginal disc :( So I went to the website and downloaded the newest driver ( for Vista) it told me that the driver was already updated. Well everytime I sign on to my computer, it says searching for driver.
I am so confused. Also, when I checked in the device manager there is nothing there. No scanner I mean.
I give up!
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Sharon
