Whether they are worth anything in the monetary sense depends entirely on their condition, what a buyer would be willing to pay, etc. Their real worth lies in their historical significance and the considerable role they play in the overall architectural integrity of the building they are in. IMHO, the fad for removing beautiful old windows, tossing them in the landfill and replacing them with short lived "energy efficient" replacement windows is an ongoing tragedy and a huge consumer fraud. Unless they are hopelessly damaged, old windows are superior to any you could buy today and are well worth repairing. Read the fine print in today's replacement window advertising and see if you think any are likely to be around as long as ones made in 1834. Old windows fixed, weather stripped, supplemented with high quality exterior and perhaps interior storm windows, will be just as "energy efficient" as the over-hyped stuff you can buy with their phony claims and short life spans.

I used to have aluminum storm windows and they were such a pain. And they were not energy efficient at all. Mine were 'double hung', meaning they slid up and down. to get a pane out you had to force it to one side, or the other and the other side would clear enough that you could tilt it out for removal. I'm guessing yours is the same way, except you would have to lift the pane up enough so the bottom could pull out a bit and then pull down to slip it out of it's upper channel. The screen works the same way and you may have to get that out first. The best investment I ever made on my home was getting rid of those windows and putting in vinyl clad double pane insulated windows that tilt in for washing.

I just posted a message in basement forum and then realized I never posted about my new windows. I ended up having a place called Cadillac Windows (I forget if forum rules allow that. If not I will fix) install my windows and they suggested Andersen 100 series. I have had them since April or so and I am happy with them so far. Ended up being $4500. Much better than some of the other estimates I had from Window Pro and I forget who else. Although, iirc, those numbers were for a different type of window. I did have one issue with my front .25/.5/.25 window. On one part of the frame Andersen tightened a screw just a little too much and had about a 1/2-3/4 tear on the inside of the frame. They had a guy come out and squirt in some silicone ( I think) and seal it up. Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite me in the butt later but that's a done deal now. I can say the energy saving is a little better but what I like even more is how much quieter it is! Anyway, thanks for the advice early this year and enjoy this winter. I will stay inside and keep warm!

That is impossible to figure out with all the varibles and still difficult with them.. Some of the varibles would be Location, cost difference, how long you plan to stay in your home, cost of energy, How many windows, size of windows and more. I’d lean towards triples if you planned on changing out the others in the futue depending on location. If plan on selling or leaving the others I would go double pane.
