What's Up?

Gee, It looks like everyone is on vacation..I know I haven't done much lately, but usually when I come in here to look around, there is something, but alas..where is everyone? I hope we aren't losing all of our members..I will try to get something made and check back in soon.

Yes, Springtime and outdoor chores have taken "funtime" away for awhile.

Yesterday, I couldn't post anything anywhere on the forums cause they were having trouble again.
Lucky I had the e-mail saved from the last time to reply to Spike cause I couldn't even get to my member page or to their address to write about my not being able to log in.
I kept getting page unknown etc.
Glad to see we are up and running today.

@chris209 (LI, NY Z7a) Hi, Chris. I was searching for photos of your irises and came across this Perennials Forum post of yours from 10 months ago. I see that you are still awaiting replies. I wish I could share a definitive answer, but I just have thoughts. What kind of salvia is this? My first thought is that the color pattern looks like variegation or disease, although I know of only two variegated salvias, Savia officinalis ‘Icterina’ and Salvia splendens. The leaves on your plant resemble Salvia officinalis but the mottled variegation does not resemble Icterina’s. The variegation resembles S splendens. Hmmm. If it is a virus, there might be reasons for the similarity. I have seen odd, rare and likely virus-induced variegation in a whole variety of plants, including weeds. Some of the viruses have produced foliage patterns not unlike yours. I currently grow a “variegated” Sweet Autumn Clematis with a fairly high percentage of streaked green and white leaves among the solid green ones. The virus may be stunting the growth a bit, but who can tell with vigorously enormous Sweet Autumn Clematis? My plant just keeps powering on like so many roses with Rose Mosaic Virus. It is my understanding that there is also a mosaic virus in salvias that is reproduced through propagation and that variegated ornamental salvias my actually carry some component of the virus? One article talking about this refers to a clerodendrum virus. I’ll attach the link discussing this below. There’s probably more info out there on the internet, too. If your plant is virused, it may also be slower growing and smaller than average which is why you see stunting, but unless it regresses, I’d call it a new ornamental variety and enjoy the rare variegation. As far as I know, the infection is no more contagious than RMV, so unless you’re propagating and want plants sans variegation…. I hope you are having a lovely and spring and are safe and well! What is your soil like? Is it heavy with clay? I've had newly-planted Autumn Blaze look peaked like this in the past and it was always due to the soil staying too wet. And it only occurred in the lower areas of my fields during rainy summers. Despite this, many of the trees still lived but they were stuck in neutral for years and I had to cut my losses. Once a tree's vigor is lost it can take a long time to recover. I wouldn't ever label Autumn Blaze as super hardy. In my experience, the tree suffers sunscald, frost crack, and tip die-back at a much higher rate than other maple cultivars touted as zone 3 and 4 hardy. Once established with a fattening trunk and mature bark beginning to form they might be fine, but I've seen a zone 3 central Minnesota winter cull many younger, smaller trees.

GG yes, that's what the post referred to - too much shade - and also perhaps too much water. I've grown impatiens for years in pretty deep shade. And, for that matter, in VERY damp soil in one garden. Ken, normally I would dig one up but I have two new babies to help with, I'm seriously sleep deprived lol, and even more time-deprived. I guess I was hoping for someone to say, oh, just do this or that and presto they'd be fine. Also, if it was indeed mildew I'd hesitate to buy these again next season, so I wanted to confirm if it was/was not mildew. Thanks! :) Dee

Nothing today. Or at all really. My sister had her 4th of July celebration on the 2nd for some reason. I did not attend the actual party because I was working. But I was pressed into service. I went to her house the day before and made some food for her. Mac and Cheese of course, Potato Salad, Olive bread, chip dip and buffalo chicken dip. I also instructed one of her oldest sons on how to roll the buffalo dip into eggrolls and fry them since that has to be done last minute. He was a star pupil and they turned out perfect I am told. I am working tonight so no plans. SO went to spend time with his family and I slept all day. I hope I will be able to see some fireworks. Someone around here usually sets them off and I can stand outside my office building and see them. But its raining so maybe not. I would rather it rain all night, my poor plants need it.

I know I'm addicted, to this and the computer help forum. Couldn't get into either one yesterday, and it kept asking me to log in when I hadn't logged out. Tried to do that and couldn't get to the member page, so I figured they were having problems. I've got a new laptop and have been busy loading all the programs and trying to transfer all my "most needed" stuff from the other computer. I only loaded PSP v9 so I can't automatically go back to another version. Hope to get back to work on it soon!

It's good to know we still have some members..I know we all get busy doing other things..It happens to me all the time. Sorry to hear about the problems you ladies are having, hope they are all solved now. It's always something,isn't it? Some times we just don't seem to have the ideas popping in our heads and other times we seem to have a ton of them...I'll probably be down soon as I'm going to have my computer cleaned out and re-done, also want to do some up-grading..probably in a few weeks or so..I seem to get so much stuff in here and it really slows it down..o.k. then talk to you gals later.

I've been gone for a while, having computer problems.
I finally did a complete restore, so now I'm busy trying to get everything back up and running again.
I'm trying to locate all my PSP stuff to get it back on my computer so I can play again.

I'm still around, but haven't made many actual graphics lately....other than for my team at the JG forum. I have been extremely busy doing other things.....dolls, contests, running a weekly rare-bird report line for western PA, working on our kitchen (painting, then comes flooring, cabinets, & counters), gardening, got a new car 2 weeks ago today (yay!), family get-togethers, etc.

I recently (month or two ago lol) had a breakthrough in PSP, I finally learned how to make true blends (for banners/tags) so I'd like to make some more of those.

The last couple of days, the weather was so nice, I got my front steps and landing scraped and repainted.
Did some yard work and other outdoor chores.
Been trying to cleanup the printouts I have laying around ready to label and put in the looseleaf notebooks.
Computers can really create MORE work than one would want.

*WHEW* I am finally done painting my kitchen!!! It took 3 coats of primer (mainly to cover up the fake tile on the lower half) and 2 coats of paint, but it looks awesome. I can't wait to do the floors and cabinets now. :)
