I have a request for help for yas, but it's a challenge...

Or at least it is to me!

Been working at this for a few hours and I'm stumped. I have a picture I'd like to clean up for Mother's Day, and I can only get so far with it. I started with this:

did what I could in PsP7 (the only one I'm truly comfortable with) and came up with this:

which is all fine and dandy, till I email it to my mom and she points out to me that the baby's hair (mine) should be platinum blonde, and her hair is blonde with platinum blonde streaks. Also the bottom half of the couch, her arm, chest,and other hand are orange. The whole couch is supposed to be tan and pink (at least the pink is right).

I've almost torn my hair out bald and still can't figure out where to go from here. Can anyone help?

Hmmm... that's a tough one!

I would go back to my scanning software and try to correct some of the fade there. The closer you can get to the original colors in the scan the better your results will be when you start working in PSP. There just isn't much there to work with.

Also I would crop to get rid of most of the stained area at the bottom.

And blond hair usually looks darker in photos, something about the way light hits it.

In other words, mine didn't come out very good either. ;-)

I cheated and went for a black and white look instead.

Wonder how it would look as a pencil sketch? LOL might need to sift through all my papers and see if I can remember how to do that.

using the GW system for pix.. one pic per post ... is all that is allowed ... if you want to get fancy... you need something like flikr or photobucket ... IMHO ... your first lesson as a newb ... is to learn about the mulch.. and learn to maintain it so as to keep weeds at bay ... if you did nothing else this season ... just mulch ... and second.. they are not children.. you wont need to ever feed anything.. key word being NEED ... a little of this or that wont hurt.. but dont get it in your head.. they will die w/o food.. besides .. note that with a properly applied mulch.. one of its functions.. as it breaks down.. is to build the soil .. which ... is really all a plant needs.. a good soil ... the first is a shrub.. i may see you in that forum .. the second is a perennial ... i might see you in that forum ... good luck and welcome to GW ken ps: learning how to water ... would be the next best thing.. to learn this season ... and it has nothing to do with wetting down the leaves every evening.. after dinner ... and it is rarely an automated system.. for anything other than the lawn ...

Yeah. It does well in shade (requires it honestly), never needs mowing, and can be walked on (in fact it is awesome for walking paths.) I linked a site that has alot of information on them plus the ability to order various types of starters. Basically you have two options, you buy small sheets of dried moss that you lay down and spray with water every day until it spreads (it spreads pretty quick supposedly) or you put some in a blender and make a slurry that you pour everywhere you want moss. Its pretty simple it looks like, but I have only seen it constructed on TV TBH. I have seen them after they are completed and they are really very pretty and soft. The nice thing is that you do not have to go shifting around soils and mulching and all of the rigamarole, you do have to pull all the plants that are there as moss doesnt do well with competition until it is established... then after that it keeps the weeds out and seems to be low maintainance. One problem is that glass cutters can handle straight cuts, but curves are iffy. If your table top is round or oval, it is tough to cut, but a rectangular piece is easier to do. I also wondering if codes require the table top to be "safety' glass, e.g., glass that is internally stressed to cause it to fragment into many small pieces if struck. This stuff may be very difficult to cut in the usual way. If Walmart can not supply you with a replacement top, then make a replacement top or get a whole new table. If you make a top out of plywood, be sure to use outdoor or better yet, marine rated plywood. The other stuff will de-lainate in a short time. Finish the plywood with an outdoor rated finish. A marine varnish is good, but ti takes a longer time to dry than other finishes. Whichever finish you use, be sure to soak the edges where the end grain shows. The edge will require much more finishing liquid than large flat surface. Continue to brush the finish onto the edges as it soaks in. Stop the application when the rate of wicking slows, and lastly, apply to the large flat surface. Sealing the edge (and end grains) is critical for long life.

Re the brushed nickel finish -- I hope that it holds up since I have that on all my handles and the faucet in the kitchen! But, I do have a *very* cheap BN faucet in my bath; $30 I think it was... it has been there 10 years (at least, I don't quite remember when I put it in) and it was perfect until my DD moved back in and started abusing it. I caught her banging her razor on it to clear it, and maybe that combined with some of her face products (like salicylic acid in the pimple cream) has started some spots where the finish has turned blackish.

Time for a little teamwork.

I added Urlee's picture as a new layer over my picture and set the blend mode to Soft Light and pulled the opacity down about halfway, then pasted it as a new layer again and set the blend mode to Overlay and pulled the opacity on that layer down about half, too.

Now we're getting somewhere. Thanks Urlee.
