Desparately Seeking Help With Picture

Hi Everyone,

I have tried to accoomplish this but just can't seem to do it. My goal is to change the faces on these pics to artist black pencil and crop just the faces to insert into a Word Doc I am going to do. Changing the pic to artist black pencil is easy, but do you crop the face after or before changing it to black pencil. Once cropped do you cut and paste as new image, new layer???? I go so lost. Would someone please crop the faces and turn the faces into artist black pencil for me so I can then just have the face pics to use in what I am doing in Word? Thank you. In the pic of the two girls, I only need the child on the right. The second pic well these only one child there, I need her face as well. Thank you ever so much. Perhaps you can tell me how you did it for future reference. I just need the faces not so much of their forehead or hair. Sorry these are so big, I don't know why. These are my granddaughters. Thank you.

This is really, really helpful. We thought of adding potted plants and painting the deck but hadn't thought of that particular placement of the pots and those colors. And we are complete newbies when it comes to arrangement/placement so specific guidance about what plants to place where is appreciated. So yeah, the front "bed".....there used to be a row of overgrown azalea bushes and we ripped them out and in a fit of desperation and penny-pinching, planted a bunch of perennials from bulbs. Things are pretty bare during the winter though so it's not obvious from the picture - the front bed goes straight across and is even with the edge of the lattice. Based on other pictures we've seen and like we will try to make it a little more curvy to add more dimension and interest. We will consider any and all ideas so please keep them coming! Edited to add photo: does this help with conveying the entrance problem? Even when the car is parked way over to the left, there is only a very small strip of driveway for people to walk on to get to the front porch. I didn't give you any advice.. sorry about that. I would check out Overstock.com. They seem to have a lot and the reviews are very helpful in choosing a good item. I'm definitely going to go there after my kitchen is done. If you give us some information on what kind of style you'd like, if you want table height seating or counter height (I love counter height, it's so much better for entertaining and easier to get in and out of, but maybe not for little kids), etc., that would help. Virtuals are unmatched for letting you think through color patterns in the room, proportions and the things like this-- the final placement. My opinion is based on your comment that you don't need the chair-- I would move forward with the room with only a single chair for now. Since the dimensions of your bookcase won't change-- all you'd need to do to add a chair is to slide the bookcase and perhaps by an end table. (BTW I have seen the narrow profile end tables somewhere less expensive than EA-- plow and hearth, maybe?). If you find the *perfect* chair in the next few months, Squirrels virtuals show you that you can fit one in. My biggest fear for you is that both the kitchen and FR will look furniture heavy. Having the kitchen table/chairs right there is influencing my opinion-- and they aren't visible in the virtuals. Also, it makes for a mucky path to the bathroom if the whole family is watching tv together. I think your plan to check with the store that had the ET custom made for you is a great plan. Hopefully they will come in with a decent price. I'd still like to see it in a darker finish to give you some visual interest but matching would be lovely too. I too have seen the Macy's pieces and they were solid wood (though I don't know if it was veneer on wood) and seemed to be well made. I do not think it would be a bad option for you-- other than the fact that it may not work for your photo albums. Maybe you can throw one in a tote bag and try it out on the floor? Just more of my continued 2 cents. I guess I am up to a dime now ;)

Putting "in my opinion" here so I don't have to reitterate it throughout this note. :) I have to mirror the earlier suggestion to get rid of the shutters. When they very obviously would not cover the window they are flanking, they look extremely out of place. Before I saw the stone close-up I was thinking "BLACK!" But now that I've spent more time on the stone, I would avoid black. I lived diagonal from a pinkey-beige house with white trim and creamy landscaping accents. Then owners painted their formerly purple door & stair rail black, and their house instantly screamed "Candyland" (as in the board game) to me. All I could see when I looked at their house was the game card with the neopolitan ice cream sandwich. Ugh! I wonder how a dark reddish brown would look - one that if you went to the top of the strip would have a slightly pinkish color. Or a dark subdued blue. If you wanted to pull the shutters down, you could use your landscaping options to fill the empty space.

That is exactly what I wanted. Would you please email me and tell me step by exactly how you did it. I know I will need that knowledge to do it again in the future.

My granddaughters love hidden pictures or I Spy books. So I wanted to insert and HIDE their face in a hidden picture. It will be a hoot. After they have found all the hidden things and their face I will keep the hidden picture sheet and put in their scrapbook. Perhaps I will hide a pic of their dog or special toy in the next hidden picture.

Hi Sapphires I hope this helps

I thought I'd just put the steps here in case anyone else in interested as well.

Crop pic to a head a shoulders view leaving some background.
Duplicate Layer and work on the duplicated one.
Negative image
Greyscale
Set blend mode to dodge - image will go white (don't panic)
Blur - Gaussian blur - about 3 but play with the setting till your happy with it.
Layers - Merge visible.

Free hand selection tool - point to point, mode - Add, Feather 3. Cut around the area you want to keep - you don't need to be too fussy but try to stay inside the lines you want.

Copy - Paste as new image.

That should be all you need to do.

This is a full face one - sorry about the top of her hair but it wasn't in the photo - you could always clone some in :)

Hi sapphires - Thanks for explaining your project - I remember you asking about this very thing in the winter I believe it was. You were going to make an I Spy picture for your grandchildren at that time. I just wrote to you and hope you will contact me off the list.

I really appreciate your help. I got lost at CROP! LOL. Once I get the square around the face, what am I clicking on? Cut, Copy what? And then where do I Paste it? Once cropped can't I just use Effects Artist Pencil? Is there a way to do it easier than your above directions. I am so clumbsy with PSP7. If not I will keep trying with your instructions. Thanks for your kindness, time and help. You are ALL great people here.

Hi Sapphires.
I'm going to try and write it out in easier to follow steps and add some screen shots for you to follow.

You can use the artist pencil but I find doing it manually gives you more control over the look.

Sue I think I followed your instruction correctly but didn't work for me. I am using PSP7.. could that be the problem?
I'll just have to wait for your new instuctions I guess..

It should work fine in 7. The tools might be in slightly different places but it can do this. Check you have the feather set to about 3 when using the selection tool.

Email me and I'll send you the document I wrote with step by step instructions. If you're still stuck after that I'll try doing the same thing using PSP 7 (I worked in version 9).
