PSP color pallet problems

I am having problems with the color pallet.. when I click on it it puts up a message that it is looking for new items & then loading new items.. it has taken as long as 5 or more minutes for it to load. This happens even if I just click on the it to just get the hue & saturation to colorize. Also the color pallet is not docked down & can be moved around. I don't think it has always been that way. I am about ready to give up PSP as it is just to frustrating. I wonder if I reload it will that correct it.

I have not put anything directly into PSP. I have a folder & put things there. I don't even have a path to the tubes or fonts. I have very few brushes. I do have quite a few filters but who doesn't... I have several filters showing that don't work.. how do I get rid of them. It is funny as the color seems to be the only place I am having problems.

Hi Dar, if your workspace is 'Default' in PSP9, try the following....you will lose any customized settings that you have.

File > Preferences > Workspace > Load >
Click: Default/OK.

That should reset PSP. Close PSP and reboot your computer.

RE: Plugins...you probably need DLL Files...try the link at the bottom of this message.

Plugin DLL
Make sure you have the Plugin.dll and Msvcrt10.dll in the correct Windows folder.
Windows 98 - Unzip into your C:\Windows\System folder

Windows ME - Unzip the Plugin.dll into your C:\Windows folder AND into your plugins folder.
Unzip the Msvcrt10.dll into your C:\Windows\System folder

Windows 2000 - Unzip into your C:\WINNT\System folder

Windows XP - Unzip into your C:\Windows\System32 folder

You can color them in "MS Paint" or "PSP" (these are the ones I use!) Open the Paint program and Tpye the word you want in the font that you downloaded. You will have to make the font size REALLY big to see the details. Then using the "Paint Can" tool fill in the areas that you want colored. You may find that the color some times "leaks" to another area or to the background. This is because there is a gap in the outline of that area or letter. I "Zoom" in to magnify the area to see where the gap is and using the "Pencil" or "Paint Brush" tool on the smallest setting I close the gap in Black. Now you can go back and recolor the area the way you wnat it. If you use "PSP" you cna play with the textures as well as the colors. This way you can make Patch work type designs look like they are fabric etc... The first time you do it might take a while, but I found that I have gotten alot faster the more I played with it. This is from Jill. I had saved it, don't know if it will help. But I always relied on Jill's expertise. Resolution Settings for printing photos When it comes to printing photos the biggest problem is usually RESOLUTION. Screen resolution is approximately 72 dpi and printer resolution is minimum 150 dpi, higher is better, depending on your printer. 300 is usually good. Look at the Image Information in PSP7 (Image / Image Information). It will give you dimensions in both Pixels and Inches. For an image from my digital camera the dimensions are 1280 x 960 Pixels and 17.778 x 13.333 Inches at 72 Pixels Per Inch (or dpi-dots per inch). If I resize the image to print it I want to increase the Resolution for a better print, which will mean the Dimensions are going to get smaller (more dots to the inch = less inches in the dimensions). In the resize dialog box select the Actual/print size area. Right now it reads: Width = 17.778 inches Height = 13.334 inches Resolution = 72 Pixel/inch If I change the resolution to 150 Pixels/inch the Width and Height dimensions change to: Width = 8.533 Height = 6.4 Changing the resolution to 300 Pixels/inch gives: Width = 4.267 Height = 3.2 If you make a photo larger than the dimension you get when you change the resolution the picture will start to look blurry when printed. The bigger you make it the blurrier it will be. Make sense? I have found PSP to be an excellent tool for working with photos. And for printing my HP PhotoSmart 1000 printer gives excellent results on high quality gloss photo paper and the best photo setting. In fact, from the same digital file I have gotten better prints from my little printer than from the big expensive Xerox color laser printer at Kinko's. Sorry I had to leave for a few minutes I can better show U the problem. Until today the red would have filled the whole NEW layer I added on.. I added a new layer.. sent it to the bottom & it would have covered the bottom layer..Now U can see what it is doing. I used red so it was easier to see. I don't know why. I sure would like to get it so it would do the same as before again but how? I have also added one done in PSP8 which is how it should do in 9 but isn't. I put purple so it would be easier to see again. Dar

Joy I have those in the correct place (searched to be sure)
I keep Adobe PhotoDeluxe install mostly for that reason. It is a very old (Version 1)but does the job & is useful once in awhile. If the background is solid it does a great job of tubing. You just have to be sure there is no breaks in the outline.
I don't see a default under workspace load. I do see a PSP 9 art media.

Dar, try this PSP 9 Workspace tutorial....you should be able to click on Default. It's near the bottom under "Loading Workspace".

RE: Plugins.
You will have to find the folder that holds your Plugins and delete the ones you no longer want.

It should be some thing like....
C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\Plugins

Open the Plugin file and find the name of the Plugin you no longer want and delete...

Dar, try finding the plugins in the following file, first...

My Documents/My Paint Shop Pro 9 (it may say My Paint Shop Pro, without the 9)...or, if you have filed the plugins in a separate folder you will have to delete them from that folder.

The plugins you want to remove may not be in this file, unless you put them there...most of the plugins in this file came with the program and should be working.
"C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 9\Plugins".
