Just thought I would let you know that I won't be around for a few days. Tomorrow I am having a total knee replacement done. I hope to be home by the weekend but it will all depend on how quickly I can get moving around again.

I hope someone will keep track of any birthdays that come up. I don't think any of the "regulars" are due but we do have some newbees that pop in once in awhile. If I miss anyone I hope you have a great day.

Hold down the fort and I'll be back as soon as I can.

Thanks for passing that along to us Urlee. Judy, hope all went well with your surgery. Stick to your thearapy and you will be dancing in a month! But at least during your recovery you can PSP and get us moving here. I miss seeing you and all the others who used to add so much to this group. C'mon we need inspiration here!!!

There seems to be mixed feelings about the trees from the NADF. I received the 10 free trees in Spring 2006, and about half died. The 2 Redbuds did the best - I transplanted them to their permanent spots this past Spring, and they were both about 5 feet tall. An excellent source for inexpensive tree/shrub seedlings is the New Hampshire state nursery. They sell seedlings in bundles of 10 for $10 ($1 apiece). They have a Songbird/wildlife package. I ordered from them in 07 & 08, all native tree/shrubs that make berries for the birds. The seedlings are very healty, with robust root systems, and I've lost very few. The Elderberries (Sambucus canadensis) have been the fastest growers and were the first to bloom - quite abundantly this year. The fruit is ripening now, and the birds are all over them. So far I'ved observed House Finches, Warblers, Catbirds, Robins, and yesterday they were several Cedar Waxwings on them! Here is a link that might be useful: NH State nursery

lyfia -- Especially with higher ceilings requiring a longer run of stairs, an uninterrupted fall all the way down 9, 10, 12 feet could easily kill you. There is code on how deep each stair tread must be and the height of the risers, but I don't know that there's code on how long a run of stairs can be and be considered "safe". Maybe I'm conditioned to think about these things! In my childhood home, the stairs were in a "U" with two steps up from the foyer to a powder room level landing; ten steps up to a landing leading to a guest suite over the garage; three steps up to the 2nd floor hallway. My mother fell down the ten steps while holding me (as an infant). No broken bones, but when my two front adult teeth came through they had horizontal marks across them. This happened just before Halloween; Mom went to a party dressed as a bum with her sooo realistic black eyes. Thinking of this just now I recall that the 2nd floor hallway had only a railing w/spindles over the foyer -- a continuation of the stair banister & spindles. I remember once sleepwalking out of my BR and dreaming I was standing at a ship's rail. I don't recall ever sleepwalking before or after that, but in that morning I realized I could have pushed hard enough on that not-terribly-sturdy railing to fall into the foyer. I guess stair "landings" are called that for a reason!

The BBB, at best, provides mediation. They have no authority to force anyone to do anything. Even a good company makes mistakes and theyÂre more than a few consumers that have completely unreasonable expectations about almost everything. I wouldnÂt completely ignore a BBB complaint but IÂd look at it in context too. Many years ago in a field completely unrelated to construction I had a female employee to alleged sexual harassment by a male co-worker. She said that she had told no one about the incident before she talked to me. The male employee happened to be on the premises at the time of the complaint. I immediately talked to the male employee and he admitted to sexual contact but claimed that it was consensual. Literally within 10 minutes of the time of the complaint the male employee was suspended (and eventually terminated). She still sued me. After $4,000 in legal fees to "prove" my innocence I wrote her a check for a few thousand because it was cheaper to pay her than the lawyers. Mike

My space heater was making me sick

No, it's electric. I don't think there's anything wrong with ceramic heaters in general. In fact, I think we used to have another one that we used in the bathroom. I suspect it was more of an outgassing problem, or a case of the heater burning off some sort of coating. I also think it's likely that I'm more sensitive to chemicals than I used to be. The heater had a definite odor, though. Someone on the Heating and Air Conditioning forum posted a link to a discussion of electric heaters. On it, I read the following: I also have a Holmes Ceramic Heater & I am specifically on this site looking for someone, anyone, who has experienced weird effects which may be caused by the heater. I have this heater by my desk at work, & I have been having noticing light headness, dry cough & chest congestion while I'm at work. It wasnt until recently that I realized that these symptoms are worse when its cold & I'm running this little heater & then they go away after a few hours of being home in the evening. Earlier in the discussion, someone had posted about her Holmes ceramic heater giving her a stuffy head to the point of headaches. Mine is a Holmes, too.

Way to go Judy!!....pretty soon you'll be pain free & if we had a hard time keeping up with you before surgery, we won't even be in your dust once you get mobile...ha, ha...

I had no idea you were going to go through this operation. My dh had his left knee done last August and will have the right knee done this Apr. 25th to be exact. Wishing you all the best luck in the world - do all your therapy....you'll be laughing in about 6 weeks. It's a real PIA or pain in the knee...whichever - but in 5 more weeks it'll be a bad memory.

Hope you don't have to have the other knee done! Hoping everything went ok.

Just taking a few minutes to check in. Thats about all I can sit at one time.
The surgery went really well. It was done on Tuesday and I came home Friday.
I get tired really easily but other than that I am doing very good, It amazes me how fast they get you up on your feet! But that is a good thing.
I'll be back when I can sit longer.
