I read the other responses, but this is what I would do... I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone. Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision. If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more. Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds. The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative. You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color. Good Luck, I'm sure they already love it, we always overanalyze these rooms, and I am sure they love it just the same now as they would later.

Wow, just headed out to the lake for a couple of weeks and missed all the excitement. Apologies, for not addressing each of the comments above, but I really appreciated the suggestions on how to work with her to find a style she likes and the links and pictures. They were really helpful. We looked at many, many, many pics of rooms together and found that: 1). she likes bright colours (esp. pink) 2). she loves stripes and big florals 3). she is absolutely nuts about curtains surrounding the bed I found 3 coordinating fuschia and white fabrics from a seller on ebay from which I can make curtains, duvet cover, and headboard cover (possibly bedskirt too). And, best of all, the fuschia and turquoise pillows from Walmart will fit right in. YES!!! The only thing I don't think I can do is the curtains around the bed, but I might be able to rig up some sort of princess canopy or just one of those white mosquito screen things (but we've had them before and they always end up getting pulled down). I'm going to try to add pics of the fabrics, but I've never done this before so I'm going to do it in the next post just in case I end up deleting this. Thanks again, everyone, for the suggestions. I can hardly wait for the fabric to arrive. It is great to do a project when we are both on board rather than one of us being dragged into it.

I did my DD's room in a pink/lime green combo about 4-years-ago. Here is an old pic of her room (which looks terrible IMHO): This is wall where two colors met: We've since redecorated it in an aqua/lime combo. Looking back on that project I've since realized a few things: 1. when doing the accent wall, the saturation of the colors needed to be similar. The first combo was the bright pink with a paler lime. I had to go back to paint store to get the lime more saturated. 2. At least for my kid's rooms, given the size, amount of stuff they had in the room, bright bedding, etc. doing accent walls is over kill. 3. Given my kids' desire for saturated colors, it still works best to choose what will be the star in the room--the bedding, WTs or the paint. Doing everything saturated is just too much. When redoing both of my DD's rooms this past summer, for the elder DD the saturated color was with a vivid turquoise paint, bedding was black&white dots; youunger DD, we went with brighter bedding and a pale aqua for the walls. I'm really happy (and my DDs as well) how both rooms turned out but it did take some subtle directing to both of them and limiting their choices. In your case, since your DD has actually MADE her bedding, WTs, etc. I would try to steer her towards a single, less saturated color in either the pink or the lime. In this way, her bedding/WTs will be the star. You can purchase samples and paint on the wall to show her how the different colors look against her existing furnishings. Showing my DDs pictures from PB teen, etc. really helped to narrow down the paint choices--esp. for my younger DD who would've chosen a more saturated aqua if I had shown her the paint chips. The I bought some craft paint at Michaels in a vivid lime and turquoise and painted the picture frames and a jewlery box to give it that punch of color she craved. The wall color then became a backdrop to showcase these other elements.

Yes, I did briefly (and now even more) worry about overspending on one. At my local S.A tree they have sibling tree cards together. My gal Natie was not a combo. So, Tina, should I just not give the wish list part (camera or skates) but give the rest to my girl? Not give poor little Natie these very cool skates? Boo hoo. Really though, I have spent enough. Or, should I take what I have to the gift Tree volunteers, show them what I've got and ask if it should be split? Edited to add: strangely there were mostly boys left on my local angel tree. I'm wondering if it's because their wish list had some expensive things on it. Not much under $140. I know this because my squeaky butt husband was standing at the tree looking stuff up on his phone and then being embarrassingly loud about it. Or, maybe people just prefer to buy for girls? I did ask the volunteers about the many boys on the tree and she did say that every year they have all been taken up by givers. I'm thinking with all the money in my area of Florida combined with the large percent of snowbird wealthy retired people that angel tree kids around here tend to get overspent on. I do think it's a bit more normal. My husband along with others does a toy drive every year and just off that one place three large truck loads of toys will go out. There are hundreds maybe thousands of such toy drives in my county. Mtn, I have always in the past just given money to different causes at Christmas. This is my first time actually getting a kid, a kid with a name and sizes and wants. It's so very addicting!!! In fact it's even more than that as I'm an empty nester. I don't have any kids to buy for and that bites.
